So I made a buddy of mine a UDS last summer for his birthday. Last week he let his brother-in-law borrow it for a birthday party he was having. They cooked up some ribs and everyone loved the food and were commenting on how easy the drum was to cook on. Anyways they must have had too much to drink because they left the drum unattended over night and woke up to this. Apparently he woke up early the next morning to see smoke in his back yard. This was the after math. I just had to laugh...but it could have been much worse.

Good thing it wasn't worse. Gotta be extra careful with the wood decks. I see a project for him this weekend!:becky:

Is there a way to hide a thread from lurkers??????

I don't want the MRS to sell my new drums before I get home.........

Yeah this is pretty crazy. I would have told him to at least put a couple bricks under the drum to keep it off the deck. Apparently they wanted to replace this deck anyways.

He's lucky he's not replacing the house too........... In a way, this is a testament as to how well the UDS can hold heat and how long of a hot burn you can get out of em. They are some efficient cookers!

I know this could have been serious and some may not consider it a laughing matter...Having said that...LMAO !:heh:

"Be sure to read any and all directions before engaging in the use of this product"

Musta skipped the page about putting it on a couple of bricks...

Everyone loved the ribs...and several people were interested in having drums built for them. As long as the food was good that is most important right?? Lol.
