• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

How do you feed your fire? Especially if using lump/brickets/chunks?

Do you feed by hand? Use some sort of shovel? Tongs?

Do you feed by the side door or from above (off sets)?

I use a fire place shovel and used to feed from the side door on my bandera. Now with the new fire grate modification that is a little difficult even on the lowest rack so I quickly feed from above.

I think I need another method though as I do not think I get enough in one addition and so with two I need to open the box more.

Use lump and logs and frrd it from the top by hand.

If feeding by hand, what type of "protective gear" do you use if any? I have an old pair of welding gloves I use occoasianally if I need to "adjust by hand"

Useally a fire place pocker in one hand and a can a Budweiser in the other

It depends on live coals or not... I have a garden trowel and a set of tongs for live coals and bare hands - tongs for unlight.

Here's a UDS Mod. Search Bigmista posts and learn just how great they cook. Good luck!

When cooking direct on my ugly barrel pit where I burn wood to coals, I use a small fireplace shovel... On the big offsets, they are hand fed splits when needed... no gloves, just have to man up and get 'er done... (OK, that sounded kinda weird)

James.

With my BDS's or my Eggs, build one fire, never add nuttin. Best burn on the BDS was 12 or 13 hours. Best burn on the Egg was closer to 20 hours.

Read some of the drum threads, you'll be hooked by tomorrow, & looking for a drum by Tuesday. Heheeee.

By hand mainly but I do use tongs if I need to strategically place coals to the rear of the fire.

A pair of welding gloves, tongs, and a fire poker are invaluable tools. The gloves allow you to directly handle burning sticks for short periods of time.
