Heard about a local scrap yard from a friend - thought they might have some bbq parts. Boy did I hit the jackpot!! They sell per pound, .20/lb. So for a grand total of $2.60, I now have two more UDS's in the building process! My wife will be thrilled!

I have a couple food grade drums around, but lids are hard to find, even the flat lids that come with drums. Still need to find some good grates, but then again I might figure out a way to build some out of expanded metal instead. I'm sure the brethren have some good idea in the uds thread.

thanks for sharing in my exuberance!

Wow, the blue one must be from a performer as it still has the thermomter in the lid handle. Nice! Can't beat that for less than $3! Probably cost more to drive there and back than for what you paid.

I will show some action shots when I get around to it. I already have a UDS, so I'm not desperate to make one so I can use it. gonna do baby backs and beer can chicken this weekend. These are going to go out to some very lucky friends of mine. Thanks for lookin guys, I couldn't share this score with anyone else who would share in my excitement.

yeah, I'm sorry for you. BBQ isn't as prevalent out here as most places. You really have to dig to find good Q, or know someone. I'm not sure there is more than 3 UDS in my town of 100k. That's probably an exaggeration. But in my circle of friends and family I'm one of few that understand proper Q, Q I've learned from the brethren. Around here people bo*l their ribs - ssshh; don't tell anyone I said that! It's ironic that bbq isn't as common, I'm doing my part to convert. It's even a huge agricultural area, and tons of orchards will all kinds of fruit wood just laying around for the taking. So yes, I'm fortunate I've found so many lids and grills, all i have to do is look in junkyards and farm junk pits and I usually find some gold.
