• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Weds Nights Cook

What's the foil on that upper rack doing for you? Yeah, that bad boy looked as of he needed some friends to keep him company.

Foil on a rack like that is what we call a heat shield. It allows you to cut down the size of the smoke chamber and conserve fuel. If you have an extra rack, the foil method works fine.

I got a piece of stainless aluminum and cut it to the size of a shelve, then cut a 4" semi circle on one side.
This allows for the smoke to vent, but keeps the heat below. Some have made heat shields from cookie sheets. Big Al even has cooked some meats above the heat shield. Make one like I did and you can do beans above the heat shield at a slower temp.

KC got to witness this: Usually the 'dera is hotter at the bottom and cooler closer to the top. In my 'dera, using the heat shield, my cooker runs about 10* hotter next to the heat shield.

BB, Big Al brought the heat shiled too us, and it will save you a heck o lot o fuel on those smaller cooks.

Your just shortening the smoke chamber is all
