Best...
I just purchased the weber ranch kettle. I wanted to get your opinion on the beast. Does anybody else have one or have used one?

I've seen them up close 3 or 4 times in stores only. The size is impressive. What do you plan to do with it? I've eaten some awfully good eats off of a regular Weber kettle over the years, especially chicken.

The rancher is an awesome beast. I only used one once, but wanted to take it home with me. Amazing capacity. Its a steroidal kettle.

Grilling is easy, u can figure that out..

for offset cooking, we found it better to spread the coals out along a longer length of the perimeter(hugging the side) than to just pile them deeper in a shorter length.. Its tricky though becase they needed to huddle together to generate the heat better, but if they are to bunched up we didnt get as good a distribution of heat. Will take u a few tries to get the hang of the offset fuel distribution. Then again, if your not cooking alot and using a small area, it doesnt matter.

Is that the monster with the two handled lid that Raichlen offsets a brisket on

Wow thats one big fat Weber. I had never heard of one until you just mentioned it.

Ive got a regular 22&1/2" kettle classic or Silver. The best Q dish that I make on the Weber is pork tenderloin. (I dont have the pics on my laptop so I'll add them later) I bank my coals (Kingsford) on the sides, long water pan in the middle, place the loin in the middle of the cooking grate above the water pan. It takes about 90 minutes and its the best!

You got there just a few seconds before i did!

yeah, thats it, but the pic doesnt do it justice.. In real life, its HUGE!! The one I used had a table mounted to it also(like a performer).

I saw the cooking surface specs...that thing is huge but, does need someone to stand next to it for some idea of scale.

I first saw the Weber Ranch about 10 years ago. I have wanted one ever since. The thing is a beast!!! I just couldn't ever justify the purchase... if you can believe that one!!

Imagine a grill that fills the back of a pickup truck and you'll get the general idea :-D

What's the circumference of the cooking grid?

Thanks for posting that. I was considering a Webber Kettle for when I need to go mobile. I like the looks of the ranch.

What is the price range on one of those?

Check out the King Kettle by Whalen, it looks just like the Ranch Kettle
