• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I stopped by a local WalMart yesterday to check out what they had and saw full packers for about a third of what my local butcher sells them for (less than $3/Lb). Picked a couple of them up, they had a nice flex and look. I have never cooked one from WalMart, are they generally good quality?

Less than $2 at the Walmart here this past week-end, prices have been going down here for a while.

The walmart here usually only sells select, but our options on whole packers are very limited, so I've bought a few. They've all been OK.

Ocassionally find choice ones but mostly selects. Usually Excel brand.

I'm a cheap farker and my family and friends like brisket so have cooked quite a few from WM. Just look thru a bunch and pick my favorite.

The Wally's around here don't even know what a packer brisket is. I have asked the meat guys and they point to the little 3 pound corned beef ones. I can be in Acworth in an hour or so. Might give that one a try. I REALLY want to try my hand at cooking a brisket. I feel like from the myriad of info on here about cooking them that I might actually be able to get the job done. Just gotta get the meat though.

The one near me used to never have good looking briskets and now they are solid 12-15lb packers that look solid. Price is getting better too. If I didn't already get them from RD and I needed one in a pinch I'd happily give them a try.

On HWY 41 in Acworth. they had two nice looking ones in the cooler yesterday, don't know if they had additional ones in the back. You might call before you come, it would be pretty bad to drive down and they had sold out.

Oh yeah I would definitely call first. The wife has been wanting to go to Marietta Diner or On The Border so we might just make the trip this weekend. Thanks!

If it's commodity beef it was packed along with briskets from other stores. same beef, different label.

Same here. No Wally Worlds even close to where I live. There are three around work though and I've never seen brisket let alone a whole packer. Luckily Costco always carries Primes for a really good price.

I picked up one last weekend for $2.46/lb. This is the first time I've seen them at any local store/butcher. Probably trimmed off a pound of fat to get it down to 1/8"-1/4".

I picked up a 12 lb choice packer from Walmart. Haven't cooked it yet but it looks good to me. $2.96/lb

The cows don't know if they end up in a box going to your butcher or Walmart. Walmat buys in bulk so they are less expensive not cheaper.

I never see em at Wallys up here but Costco Choice for 2.39 a # isn't bad:

I can't tell a difference from the Wal-Mart ones compared to the depot ones I buy. Wal-Mart mart ones are less expensive and turn just as good and Wal-Mart is a 15 minute drive compared to depot about 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Walmart in Alice, Texas has them for $1.97 lb, bought 4.
