I still have plenty of charcoal, but saw Walmarts "backyard Grill" (Black bag) brand last trip there pretty cheap, and I thought I read that it was made by Stubbs or Royal Oak. Anybody know?

i saw them too. think they were $5/bag and they are made by RO.

I think royal oak makes them. Now are they as good as their name brand. I don't know. I have used the Wal-Mart brand and it's good quality. I like it and can run my 22.5" WSM just fine with it. So I don't care who made it as it does work just fine.

I bought a bag and used it on the Beast to grill. No issues what so ever with it. Briquettes are on the larger size vs other brands, but burns clean, no funky odor or taste and food comes out great. $5 is a great deal.

Not sure I would use it in my Akorn or other smoker, Grilling yes any day!

I know it's not an answer to you question but as far as cheap charcoal is concerned I haven't found one I like better than Best Choice Mesquite Briquettes. They are 100% hardwood.

Using it right now and smoking just fine on my 22.5" WSM only had to use two bags overnight and it got in the low 20's so not bad at all. Makes a good bit of ash but the smoker doesn't seem to care.

I bought some the other day to try, so far so good. Cheap price too.

I ve been using for the last few months and it works great for me .

If people would quit supporting Wal Mart they would quit building them on every corner.

That argument is pointless. Will never happen. I hate Walmart but refuse to argue it. Is a waste of everyone's time.

Moving on, I would use it for $5 a bag if it works. I'm cheap like that. If if works, I like it. :biggrin1:

I do not shop at Walmart. I will drive through their parking lot, if necessary, and spend more money for the same item at almost any other store.

I find their business model reprehensible.

I always shop at Wal-Mart. Best prices typically for everything. I got most of my smokers and my meat there. Got almost everything from Wal-Mart. Probably always will. I also shop Sam's Club and I love it. The people at our Wal-Mart are very nice people. Some of the people that work there are people I know. My neighbors, friends, and people I use to go to school with long time ago. Heck they pay a pretty fair wage at $10 per hour at our Wal-Mart when you consider the jobs that most people have in their store.

The guy is asking about charcoal though probably not the best place for an argument about business practices. So as much as I love Wal-Mart and Sam's club and I want to argue that Wal-Mart is a good company this probably isn't the place for it. Just saying out of respect for the op we should leave this one alone.

What do think about kings ford

It is not bad. If you get it on sale it's great for the price and the backyard grill charcoal is good for $5 but the kingsford lights a little faster but not enough for me to pay more.
