• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I’m on the hunt for a Vacuum Packaging System. But there are so many to choose from. What do you think? Is there one of these that you have found to work really well? Then it looks like you can buy pre-made bags or bulk rolls of material. What experiences have you had there?

Foodsaver for over 10 years .... reliable, easy to maintain, use their continuous rolls for flexibility.

I recenty bought a rival and have been very inpressed since it was $40. I have a foodsaver but broke the second year I got it. But all and all those are the best ones.

Mama bought me a Rival for my birfday, but I've only used it a couple of times so far. It's a weak recommendation, for sure, but the thing is easy and it works. So far, anyway.

I've been using the Foodsaver. Model 800 I think. Next one will be a commercial model that's sold at Bass Pro or Cabelas.

For now, I have to second the Foodsaver Pro II as stated above. I've had mine for about five years and it's still going strong. It get's a pretty good work-out after a contest. I don't know if they even still make that model, but having that bag cutter built-in and useable as you go it a much bigger deal than you'd think.

My next one will be one of that all stainless units at Cabela's and Bass Pro sell also.

I've got the Cabela's commercial model and like it. I bought it "remanufactured" and with a full warranty for $100 less than retail, but I don't think they're available like that any more. It's my first one, so I can't compare it to others, but it does work well. Has 2 pistons and will crush an aluminum can in the bag. The seal area on the bag needs to stay clean or else you'll have vacuum problems.

I use foodsaver. have one at home and one at my lake place. Watch Kohl's Department store ads , as they run good sales all the time. Not sure of model, but i picked up one there fo 59 bucks a while back. they have some of the higher end foodsavers on sale now for 120 or so. (40 to 50% off). I prefer buying the bags on rolls and making my own....custom sized to fit whatever i'm sealing. Sam's has good prices on them too.

Did you guys get your Foodsavers at Costco? I am planning on getting one for Christmas. Now I need to buy a new fridge/freezer to store everything.

Will the bags from one brand work in another, or do I have to buy the brand that matches the vaccum system?

That is some very helpful info guys. Thanks!:eusa_clap
I will be looking over the various FoodSaver models and the stainless unit from Cabela's. I am also going to look and see if it has a built in bag cutter.

Several of you mentioned the bag sealer. Apparently some work better than others.

Sledneck, that is a heck of a price on that link you provided! That one deserves a good hard look!

I got a basic model foodsaver (Vac 800) 3 or 4 years ago & have been real happy with it.

I don't know if a Gander Mountain is close to you but a friend picked up a Pro II this weekend for $164 (list was $279). Here's a few prices from their website:

Tilia Food Saver Professional II Hot Buy $ 164.99
Tilia Game Saver Deluxe SG Kit Hot Buy $ 79.99
Tilia Pro Sport Kit Hot Buy $ 119.99

A customer of mine has the Cabella Stainless Model and I used it one weekend OH MAN Thats is great

It looks really powerfull. It dosen't seem to have all the canister attachment stuff like the food saver. Is that a big deal?:?:
