My Uncle Dudie had a big impact on my life. He put everyone before himself and dedicated his life to helping the less fortunate. My mom and uncle were the cooks of the family. My grandparents taught them all their traditional Mexican recipes that had been passed down for generations. My uncle was known for his braised beef brisket sandwiches that he made every month or two. In 2001 my uncle suddenly passed away from a heart attack, taking the recipe with him.
Well a week ago his daughter called my mom and told her she found the recipe for his braised beef brisket....it had been in the garage in an old book. My mom quickly jotted down the recipe and promised to try it for the 4th of July.
On Sunday morning I was walking up to my parents house and couldn't help but shed a tear. The smell of my Uncle Dudie's braised beef brisket took me back to my childhood parties and family gatherings. I ran inside, grabbed a fork, and tasted the exact recipe we thought was gone forever. This will be a fourth of July my family will never forget. We made the sandwiches exactly how he would have....bolillo bread, homemade salsa fresca, a tiny bit of mayo, and cotija cheese. We will make sure this recipe lives on.

Thanks Matt. There is nothing better than a bowl of menudo. I hear cleaning the tripe could be a pain...

Mighty tasty looking sammitch! Don't suppose you'd care to share the recipe?:-D

I will get the complete recipe from my mom. I know some of the ingredients....pinot noir wine, a boatload of cilantro, onions, wooster sauce, soy sauce, red pepper, oregano, fresh garlic. PM me and when I get recipe I'll send your way.

Ohhhhh Man that's one fine looking sammie :-D

Great to see a tradition being reborn.....:clap2:

Also would love a copy of the reicpe too.

Fantastic looking sammich. Even better story and background to go along with it. Uncle Dudie is grinning from ear to ear I'm sure. Those ingredients sound like it's packed with flavor. Would love to have Uncle Dudie's recipe if you don't mind. Braised brisket is a staple at parties around here. Your Uncle's recips sounds like a one of a kind though. Thanks for sharing.

Bob

You know I'd hit that sammich!

We have a radio show out of New Orleans called the Food Show with Tom Fitzmorris. A lot of times people will call him saying things like "my grandmother made the best gumbo" and they try to hit him up on how to come close to duplicating it. Its sad but he always has to tell them its gone forever. Folks if anyone you know makes something you love to eat get the recipe, and if they don't have one buy the ingredients for them and watch them make it.

Don't let it die with them.

Great story Danny and a fantastic looking sandwich. I'm sure your uncle is proud that the recipe is living on through you and family.

Danny, any way to describe the per portion of some of the ingredients on this. I got the message you sent but I was wondering if you could fill in some of the details?

Thanks
