• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I've got a butt on the ECB right now, and I just checked the probe (NuTemp) that I have in the meat, and it's reading HHH. Is that, "Holy Hell it's Hot"?

When I unplug the probe from the remote, the remote display switches over to 69deg- the ambient temp.

Did the probe get fried somehow? I had it all the way in the butt, except for the bend part of the probe was sticking out...

My little oven thermometer on the lower rack shows 210deg- so that's ok, but I'm just worried that maybe I killed the probe or something. (And of course I can't find my instructions- I think I threw them away about a month ago! DOH!)

I set up my 2nd probe through a 1/2 an onion to read the ambient temp on the top rack, and it's still working fine... weird

Anybody got any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks y'all!

Reset your remote sender and the receiver.

Could be that the probe is farked. If the other probe is working and you're oven type thermos are in there then just use the "onion" probe for the meat.

unplug batteris on remote.

press reset button on base unit.

then boil a pan of water and see if you get anthing close to 212.

Well, I think I had a HUGE temp spike while I wasn't looking.

We're talking, over 350deg!

Why? Because the probes are only good to 392. I added some more wood a little while ago, and while I was mucknig around with the non-functioning probe, I watched the temp race up when the new wood lit- it went to 340 before I pulled the lid off and opened the chamber door on the ECB! HOLY COW!

So, it probably went a good bit higher while I wasn't looking (I got busy doing something).... which would explain why the skin of the butt & ribs look like they've been in the Q for 8 hours instead of 2.5hrs.

Oh well, we'll see what happens.... thankfully I've still got a chicken I was going to throw on in a few hours as well...

Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I'm going to have to buy a new probe! :?

Sorry for the confusion. My thermo (not NuTemp) has a switch on the remote and the receiver.

the nutemps read HHH when they loose a good signal from the probe. I found that when the point of the probe where the wire enters the steel gets gunked up or damaged, the HHH shows when the signal fails. wigle the wire near that point, if the remote starts reading temps again, your probe is farked.

wiggle mod.

And you meant doesnt start reading

When my probe gets wiggled, it means my temp and blood pressure is going up :!: :P :D
