I just had the best luck! The bloke in the factory next to my print shop is retiring and closing his business. He was a seller of chains, ropes, wires, lift and hoist equipment. Apparently, a lot of chain is supplied in these big drums. I was having a chat to him and asked what he was going to do with the drums. He was looking for a place to get rid of them!

They certainly look beat up, but I'm not complaining!

These drums are painted inside, but do not appear (at least to me) to have a liner of any kind.

Also, no lids.. so I'll have to do something about that. All in all, not too bad!

Cheers!

Awesome score! Did you ever get your ECB by the way?

No, Smokey... I never did. I'm still wondering WTF happened there. I was in an Acholic Stupor when I ordered the thing, and then I was in a hangover stupor trhe next day when the cancellation e-mail came through.

So.. I can't find where I ordered is from, and I can't find who cancelled iton/e me...

I've checked all my archives... but I got nothin!

I'm a BIT PISSED OFF about this, but I'm sure you all find this bloody funny... And I do too..... a bit...

But since I've recently scored a few big drums for nix.... I'll let it ride

Cheers bros.... what iI'd really like now is links to the shortest and most definitive guide to simple UDS'dom

Cheers!

You could cut the bottom third out of the orange one and use it as a Topper on the other one. I'm sure I have seen it done on here.
My favorite way to burn out multiple barrels is to throw them on a raging brush fire- don't know if thats possible where you are.

That is a great idea.

Someone (sorry I forgot who) did a write-up and had some photos in the UDS thread on that. It's a lot to wade through, but if you kinda know what you're looking for its easier.

Basically, you just cut the bottom off the donor drum, weld (or bolt & gasket) a strip of 1.5-2" flat steel stock to the rim to make a seal and "poof" instant lid.

It occurs to me that you could do essentially the same thing with a closed-head drum.... Hmmm... may have to try that.

Wow Bill.. Great score! Can't wait to see what you do with them.
