I drove up Friday from Nixa, MO and picked my Uncle Jim up in Olathe, KS on the way. It was an easy 6.5 hour drive up I-35 that felt like 2. He had never experienced a contest start to finish before. I think he is hooked.

We competed in chili & the four meats as the Peach Orchard Boars, winning 10th in chili. We met some very nice Minnesotans and we plan to go back next year.

Miami Oklahoma was the only 1st year contest on par with this one as far as organization was concerned in my opinion. Class act all the way. The only thing I wish they could have done differently would be to provide electricity. The rooms at the casino were very nice and you could find nearly anything you might have forgotten just a few miles away in beautiful Red Wing.

We ended up getting 170's in chicken and ribs which was good for 25th & 23rd . I overcooked my pork and brisket and was judged appropriately. I did get two comment cards for my 7's in brisket and the judges were spot on in their critique.

Many thanks to Perry and his crew for making this a Father's Day to remember.

Hi Perry, Glad your event went well.

No, I don't mind you using ideas of ours that you like. To me, that is not stealing.
Thanks for the kind words. And yes, we do share info with each other.

Pat - thanks for the comments- that helps give some understanding about the judging that day.

I was a Judge at this contest. It was one of the best run contest I have ever seen. The Chicken at our table was some of the best chicken I have ever seen. Out of the 6 entries of Chicken we judged I gave all 9's for 2 of them. The meat that was least impressive at our table was brisket. The Master Judge that was our table said it was the worst piece of meat he has ever judged. You could tell it was a new team because the garnish was just dumped in the container with stems and all. I will compete in the event next year
