• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Just wondering what everyone uses to store all there stuff and keep it all organized and readily available? Had my first KCBS contest in august guess I didn't take time to really walk around and such. Right now I have just one big blue tub. I realize some may have nice trailers with drawers and cabinets. But on a budget.

thanks

This is an extremely nice set up

I have to say I copied what is in the picture but I only used 2 of the 3 drawer cabinets. The other set of shelves i use to store my bins with rubs, tools, and just about everything else. Got the wire shelves at Home Depot and the cabinets at Amazon. This is a really great setup and you can always change the configuration after you learn how you like things arranged. We have changed somethings before each season.

I have 2 small totes that fit in the basement storage on our camper. One is for food type stuff like rubs and stuff. The other one is for prep stuff. Foil and cutting boards don't fit in these but most everything else does. My cooking tools and knives go in a 26" craftsman toolbox with a lift out tray. I don't carry anything in the interior of the camper so as not to disturb my family in the middle of the night when I'm up doing stuff. After a few years I really slimmed down my list which helped lighten the load dramatically.

I keep all my rubs and important tools (thermopen, injectors, etc.) in a large Stanley toolbox. Easy to grab on the go and durable if it gets knocked around in the trailer.

I use small hand held Kobalt toolboxes from Lowes.
1 - has my prep tools, box making tools, injector, 1st aid kit, guru kit, thermometers
2 - has my rubs and sauces
3 - has hand tools, spare water hose gaskets, 2 way water hose connectors, tapes, assorted kinds of small light, lighters, gloves, fuse pullers and assorted spare fuses for different camp sites I have been to, spare batteries ext...

The rest of the gear fits in my dry storage boxes on my Deep South trailer.

that pic above is dang nice! as for us, we continue to get more organized, but most of our stuff stays in totes and toolboxes.

I have this tool box and it works really well. Bottles of rub, etc. go in the bottom. Knives, thermometers, small flashlights, etc. go in the top. I use the straps in the lid for holding a box of foil. Works pretty well - it sits right on top of my prep table and everything I could need is close at hand for prep and turn in. However, when I bought it in February it was only $20.

I only do a few comps a year, so no trailer, no RV etc... We pile the smokers, easy-ups, tables, etc... on a 4'x8' trailer. Everything else goes in the back of the vehicles, so here's what I do.

1 large Rubbermaid for misc camp stuff like extension cords, table leg extensions, collapsible trash cans, bungee cords, etc...

1 smaller Rubbermaid for rubs & sauces

1 smaller Rubbermaid for Therms (guru's, Mavericks, extra probes, instant reads, etc...)

1 smaller Rubbermaid for Cleaning supplies & gloves(dish soap, sponges, Steritabs, aprons, cotton & Nitrile gloves, etc...)

1 smaller Rubbermaid for injectors & brushes (injectors, needles, BBQ brushes, toothpicks, plastic utensils, etc...)

I suggest you layout the stuff you need and try to organize it in a manner that you find useful. Then find totes to accommodate your system.

I don't compete, but I have been known to cook remotely for gatherings. I use Gamma Seal bucket lids. These spin off lids will fit any standard 5 gallon bucket found just about anywhere. I also store emergency food in them. They also stack easily as well. Good luck

I have a rubbermaid tub for all dishes that will end up being washed (they load into the trailer clean in the tub, then back into the tub when dirty), then I have two of those black bins with the yellow lids for everything else.

I guess it also kind of depends on if you have a cargo trailer, if you like to prep/box in the cargo trailer, or if you are a everything goes in the back of a van/pick-up and you prep/box under a pop up.

I'm a 6x12 cargo trailer person, and I like to prep and box in the trailer, so most of my stuff stays in the cargo trailer. I have a plastic chest of drawers for plastic bags, hardware/repair items, and 1lb gas canister, and butane. Then I have a bank of plastic drawers like you would use for crafts that hold all my cooking tools. I have a metal cabinet on one wall that holds all the rubs and misc food items. I also have a set of stainless steel shelves with bins (like above) that all the bigger stuff goes in that goes in the nose of the trailer. Stove, sleeping bag, water jugs, spray bottles, foil pans, wood, tent walls, extension cords.
I probably carry a lot of extra stuff I don't use every comp. I do go through the yearly exercise of purging everything that was not ever used during last year's comps.
I like the plastic bins and drawer carts because they are lightweight, cheap, and you can clean all the bbq sauce off of them pretty easily.

My team started using one of those shoe organizers that would hang in your closet. There are about 8 separate sections and we hang it on the side of our EZ-Up tent. Its great to keep items like gloves, brushes, tools etc. at arms reach at our prep tables. Got ours at Walmart

That's an awesome idea!

I bought these to make storage and packing much eaiser. I only do 2 contests per year and don't have a trailer. Just a F150 and my other teammate has an Escape.

F150 gets loaded up with the UDS, WSM, Hose, Folding tables, coolers, charcoal and wood.

Escape gets loaded up with the plastic bins, which are organized by use. Being clear bins, we can also see what is in them, so searching through them isn't an issue.

I have a big stanley slide open tool box, but to be honest I've switched to 5 small tupperware containers. Got one for each category and a General. Rest of my storage is Cambros. All my cookie sheets, cooling racks and disposable pans go in the cambros. I try not do do any dishes at a comp except washing knives. As cambros get empty all my dirty racks and cookie sheets go back in one cambro. When I get home I carry it in the house and throw it all in the dishwasher. My loading and unloading is getting down to 40 minutes each way.
