• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

We all post our successes, but this is my biggest grill fail ever. The wife and I were really looking forward to BLTs tonight, but it was not to be. I got the bright idea to throw some bacon on the grill on a rack and pan, I smoke it like this from time to time and I've oven cooked bacon liek this a hundred times before. Apparently my grill wasn't done preheating and it was a little (or a hell of a lot) hotter than I expected. I glanced out the window and thick black smoke was pouring out of the Weber Summit 670. I rushed outside and there was a hell of a grease fire going on, doh. I figured it was around 500 not sure how I got grease out of the pan on fire down by the burners and in the pan on fire but it was quite the fire. This is all that remained of the pound of bacon when the flames died down. I haven't seen food carnage like this since I said goodbye to my ex-wife.

Sorry to hear that, next time.

I've done something similar (and more than once). I have a Char Broil infrared gasser. It's basically got a belly pan under the grates and the food sees no direct flame. It was great for cooking chicken. Leg quarters on at 500-600*, never a flame up. But now that belly pan has a few holes burned through it. I'm used to just throwing chicken on and leaving it for 15-20 mins. At least a couple times now I've walked out to find a smoking flaming mess. Skin black with soot. Anyhow haven't used it all summer and don't even have any propane for it. Having to much fun with charcoal kettle.

ya bacon, prettty much how I start all my grill fires...smh

Burnt bacon is better than burnt biscuits. Don't ask how I know this.

Thanks for the laugh. But sorry to hear about your bacon. I was disappointed I thought there was going to be some killer BLTs to look at when I clicked on this thread. Probably not as disappointed as you when you opened that grill to a blazing fire though.

Yup, happened to me once. Saw the flames shooting up and was reaching for the carbon dioxide fire extinguisher to knock it down. Before I could come out of the garage, my wife took matters into her hands with the princess model dry chem style. Took me hours to clean that mess :mad2:.
