• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I eneterd a modified version of Thirdeye's green chili http://playingwithfireandsmoke.blogs...een-chili.html into a chili cook-off at the local vets club yesterday. The only modification I made was using smoke pork butt instead of the ground oven baked he calls for in his recipe.
Well we got there and everybody was kind of looking at it funny and saying it didn't look like chili, but once everybody started eating it was clear they like it. While we didn't think it was hot (only used 6-8 serrano's), people were sweating and saying it darn near killed them. Then others were saying it needed more heat.
So the voting is going on and my wife is counting the votes as they come in. At the end of the night she counts them and we tied for second, but as the other second place entry got to second place first, we decided to be fair we would take third.
So I am sitting there having a drink and it dawns on me MY WIFE DIDN'T CAST HER VOTE!!!!!!
So Thirdeye, thanks for the only 2nd and 3rd place chili recipe!

P.S. Also did the Brisket Chili recipe that just plain old ROCKS! It didn't get a single vote. No accounting for taste in Arlington.

Congrats!!!

That is definitely some of the best chili that I've eaten, and I'm glad the judges agreed.

Hey, no matter how you look at it, that's a real good showing. Glad the gang thought highly of it.

You can never tell about the serranos (some are hotter than others) and whether folks will take a liking to them or not. It's like watching people eat ABTs or Buffalo wings.....The line I hear the most is "These are really hot", as they reach for another, and then another one.

That's a great recipe...

Sledneck made it twice... Once at the ICS chili contest and placed at the top and then again at Williepalooza for the chili contest.

I can't get enough of that chili... really good balance and texture...

Was that the one Westex won? Did he win green or red?

I recall pictures with you going after the chili in the background (or maybe foreground)

37* this morning, this recipe is rocketing up my chart of things to try.

Do you just start with your pulled pork, then add the dry spices when everything goes in the stockpot?

That is the way I should have done it that way. I put it in the oven with more rub and heated it through. Dried out the pork and could only use some of the centers of the large chunks. I would just put it in the crockpot and continue on as per the recipe.
