• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Any suggestions on where the third shelf should be placed in my WSM?

Centered between the top and bottom, move water pan ETC. Or maybe should just buy another WSM.

Thanks,
Brian

I have read of someone putting three beer cans on the bottom rack then using them as a temporary support for a third rack. Never tried it, but remember seeing it. Let me see if I can dig it up.

I will try a search using the word "beer" J/K let me see if I can find it.

Let me know also if I am supposed to leave the beer in the cans. :-D

LOL Drink the dang beer and use three Campbell's soup cans. I just found it on the VWBB and it was Keri C. who used soup cans. I must have beer cans on the mind.

"Hmmmm... I guess I cheated. Just finished a cook of half a dozen huge BB's that I didn't want to roll and didn't really want to put in racks. I just emptied and cleaned three Campbell's soup cans and put on the bottom rack close to the walls. Then placed a rack off the old ECB on top of the cans, with the top rack in its regular position. Two slabs of ribs cooked flat on each rack, and they came out great.

I bought another upper rack (same as the std 18 1/2" kettle) and spaced it above my top rack by about 3 1/2 inches (as high as it would go before hitting the lid) with threaded rod, some washers and nuts. I secured 4 rods by placing them through the new grate like legs and putting nuts and washers on the top and bottom to pinch the grate. I then set the standoff height by positioning a shouldered nut about 3 1/2 inches down the rod. The bottom end of the rod goes into the corresponding spaces in the original top grate below and the shouldered nuts act like feet to stand the new grate on top of the old one. You can only fit smaller items like ribs, chicken etc. in there, a butt or brisket obviously wouldn't fit, but it's come in handy enough to make the mod worthwhile. HTH.

Yeah, I don't know if you should try to pack any more shelves in there. Seems like it's pretty tight in there already. dont know how it would effect performance?

I've seen pictures of people who have just bought a slightly smaller grate and then just hang it from the top grate using wire.
