• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Hello Folks...movin' on to other things to do on my BGE! :-P So...I ordered my sourdough starter and thus begins my journey. It starts with my homemade proofing box to get my starter going...and Lord knows where it will end! Wish me luck!

Proofing Box...

Love it! Looks very familiar ..... I do the same also in electric oven with light on and 'custom' folded hot pad(s) to get the opening just right.

Only ~$1,300.+ for GE Advantium and its 'Proofing' setting

Right now I keep two starters going ... a rye one from scratch and an old Oregon Trail starter that's been refreshed for several years. Probably lost almost all of the original wild yeasts and now a boring local version.

Enjoy!! I do a Miche, or French Country loaf about every 2-3 weeks (Thom Leonard formula) and it has become our 'staple' bread.

Only ~$1,300.+ for GE Advantium and its 'Proofing' setting

I'm out 9.99 for the dimmer switch, .99 cents for the light socket, 1.49 for the light bulb (25 watts). the cooler is older than I am  as well as the extension cord.:-P

Including the equipment, starter, and book...I'm out about 50.00 bucks...unless you consider the BGE and the digital thermo. But I already had those...so they don't count...right? OLD TOYS NEVER COUNT WHEN BUYING NEW TOYS...THAT'S THE RULE!:lol::lol:

Anyhoo...the starter is in...and the 24 hour proofing begins...stay tuned bread fans! :icon_bigsmil

You can also try putting your bowl on a heating pad (if you have one around the house) & set it on low; and cover the bowl with a thick towel.

Inside the oven with the light turned on works too. Saves having to haul out the cooler and hook up everything.

Just my 2 cents worth. :-P

I look forward to seeing how this turns out. If someone wanted to try this ... where would you order your starter from?

My new Samsung oven has a proofing setting, as well as a warming tray under the stove. Very cool model. No exposed heating element. Scott
