So I found this bandera on craigslist for $100 and have began the process of doing the mods and turning her into my rib and chicken machine. Then I can use my backwoods party for the long cook items. Here are some pics of where we began and where we are now.

Wow now I'm wantin mine to look like yours. Nice work. If you need to seal your doors let me know, my mod has been working well for three months now.

Chef, I would love to know how you sealed your doors

Through much trial and error, mostly with the adhesive I have come up with this.

McMaster-Carr sells all of the item I have used. http://www.mcmaster.com/#

First the tape. I used a Woven Slotted Fiberglass Seal that is adhesive backed. You can forget about the adhesive backed part cause it doesn't stick except on the door and even then I would use something with it.

The tape is 1 in. wide and 1/8 thick. Comes in 25 ft. roll for $9.38 + tax
PN 8813K31. I used this on the door and also the fire box lid. You need to make sure you are applying to bare metal.

The adhesive that I finally found is Rutland Black, Fiberglass Stove Gasket Cement. Good to 2K temps. PN 7573A31, About $7.06 a tube.

I also used the cement to seal the fire brick mod I made to the fire box. So far this has worked very well.

Good luck!:thumb:

Ok so it's all done except the door seal. Painted, heat baffle, heat shield in the firebox lid, firebrick in the firebox and smoke chamber, new thermometer, axel and wheels under the firebox, and a refurbished shelf. I might consider selling it for the right offer

Yeah I did, I just seasoned it last night so I haven't really been able to tell. However they will hold a little residual heat so I figured it couldn't hurt.

Pretty sweet looking rig you got there! I like the basket mod.

Can't tell from the pic. How are you catching the ashes?
