Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Wife gave me that for my birthday. Haven't cracked it yet.

Those two are only staying afloat because of their mother and her money. This book is recipes collected from restaurants that they have visited while traveling. Anyone could have done this, its just about having the money and the well known name to back it up, that makes it successful.

Anyone could have done this,

I don't think those restaurants would have given up those recipes to most of us if we asked. Most probably paid to be placed in the book or to be featured on the show. Its advertising and exposure for the small businesses.

I don't know the story of the Dean's, so I can't say whether they deserve the credibility offered them or not.

Most cook books are not unique recipes by the author... let's face it. They are either "borrowed" or researched/created by a staff in a cubicle farm somewhere. I doubt Martha Stewart contributes first hand to every feature in her books and mags.

After having met the Deen Brothers and talked to them about BBQ at the food show in Anaheim. I am now a big fan of theirs! They are great guys! So yesterday I picked up their cookbook, The Deen Bros. Cookbook. It had some great recipes in it and some BBQ recipes in it that I want to try as well!

What did they have to say about BBQ in general? What did you like about their approach to BBQ?

Yep...what he said.

I am with you on this I like the Dean Boys having met them also they are nice people and seem very genuine. I got the cook book for fathers day and there is some good stuff in it.

Do most people in Georgia not like them?

I have friends in Savannah that pretty much hate Paula.

But to think after working their asses off for 18 years that they live off their mother now, is ironic.

It is because they are successful that Paula is on TV.

She was not there 8 years ago, and that was 10 years into the restaurant business for the 3 of them.

I stayed right up the street from the restaurant last week. My host was pretty hyped on being able to get me in if I wanted. But my wife has withstood the wait and thought it wasn't worth it (we've both been to Mrs. Wilkes' and she liked that much more). That said, a co-worker went and enjoyed it. The majority of folks on Chowhound seem to think that they're riding on their TV exposure instead of making good food.

And Paula is just too much. The one time lately I saw her she was making bread pudding out of KK doughnuts and fruit cocktail. Think I saw the boys a while back, and my impression was "these guys just don't know what they're talking about."

Don't know about the boys, but Paula's new husband Michael sure looks like he has a good buzz on all the time:biggrin:

If you read online reviews of their family restaurant, Lady and Son's, its gone downhill. It appears to have turned into a tourist trap. Some reviewers complain of ordinary, too salty and over priced food. Poor service. Long 2 to 3 hour waits to be seated. Being rushed in and out. Sounds like a fun place.

I was in Savanna last year and ate at the resturant. I did think that the regular prices were a little high but we ate the buffet (I think they just do it on Sundays) which was only 9-12 bucks and had about half the menu on it. As far a waiting goes there are long lines becasue it is a tourist destination but I thought it was worth the little wait that we had and the food was good. I also find no faults with people who work hard and make something for them selves which is what paula has done. But I still find it hard to watch her show she is too much for me.

First of all they were very nice guys. They came into our booth and when we told them that we were selling BBQ rubs they got exited. They said that they had to try some because they LOVE BBQ. We talked with them and they talked about their smokers and how much they loved to sit outside with the smoker going. They stated how much they hate it when someone gives you BBQ smothered in sauce. They were saying they are starting to eat ribs with only rub and no sauce.

You could tell as they talked about BBQ that they have a love and reverence for BBQ. It was fun to talk to someone on TV that feels the same way I do about BBQ.
