• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I have finally gotten started on my Stumps Clone build, I just have one quick question about the transfer tube. What is the best location for it, right now it extends to about 8" from the side wall, worried about a hot spot directly above the chute...it can be cut down or modified if need be. Thought I would reach out to your that have experience with building and/or owning them. TIA

Sorry for the lack of updates. Got a quite abit done the last 2 times I got to work on it. Here are the latest pics. Awaiting my next steel order to finish it up.

I bought the frame and chute already built for $200 I believe. I would say I have easily another 1k in it but I have 99% of what I need to finish it up without any more purchases. I screwed up and did not buy steel when it was cheaper than it is now, price has increased a bit since my inital purchase of the frame and chute.

She looks good!.......You aren't too far down the road from me! What did you ever determine about the transfer tube? I see you cut it fairly short.......

I found a really good picture of a stumps that showed the heat deflectore in place they use with a short transfer tube. I am going to give that a go and see what happens. I see their concept in doing it that way, just have to see if my setup reacts the same as theirs does.

Thanks. I procrastinated for a long time but once I started making progress I just wanted to finish it.

Another $1,000 in steel AFTER the $200 initial ?

What's so expensive ?

Can you give us a list of materials you bought and how much each piece was ?

1x1 tubing to build all doors, had to buy in 24' sticks x2
1x1 1/8" angle iron- 60 ft
4x8 sheet of expanded steel
$315
Large gravity feed smoker kit and 3" thermometer from smoker parts.com
$312
I believe I bought 3 sheets, maybe 4 4x10 sheets of 14 gauge steel for the skins
I believe it was around $320 if I remember right.

1" high temp insulation
$252 (mainly because I got screwed on shipping, actually bought a little too much as I changed the design, should have put down I was a business for free shipping) \

Man...should not have written that all down...makes me realize what I have spent, Forgot about the wheels and legs, that will be another $60sih I imagine, waiting for the legs to be cut.

So actually a little more than 1k. that is not counting grinding and cutoff wheel, welding wire and other little misc things.

Sorry no picture updates but I have the chute door skinned and ready for hinges and the firebox door skinned and ready for hinges as well. I have the cook chamber door fram built and plan to skin and insulate it tonight, that is going to take a little extra time as I am adding some extra steel where the handle will mount and also welding the nut inside for the thermo to screw into as the threads are not long enough. once those are all mounted I should be home free getting it put on legs/wheels and maybe even a test fire this weekend before the finish work and paint.

Theoretically if it's a Stumps clone shouldn't the door clasp be misaligned, the racks be bent, the caster holes off center and the exhaust cap needs a gap?

Too soon?
