I have tried to grill yellow squash before but I have never been very happy with the outcome. Anyone have some suggestions to try on grilled yellow squash to that I turn out something worth eating?

I just logged on to ask the brethren if anyone had grilled or smoked a spaghetti squash. The first thing I saw was your question. So, when you experts out there reply to bobaftt, please throw in your comments about spaghetti squash as well. Thanks!

Well, mine didn't look as good as Rick's, but last summer I grilled yellow squash and zuchini a few different times.

I kept it simple and just used EVOO, coarse salt and cracked pepper. I found out that slicing them THICK really helped from making them turn to mush.

I also figured out that a HOT grill, quickly turning them worked out better than "roasting" them. Again....the mush factor.

I've only grilled slices (about 1/4" to 3/8" thick) and have not yet tried to roast a whole or half squash like the in the thread above.

Never did spaghetti squash.

Good luck!

I've cut them in half lengthways....scooped out part of the middle and filled with a sausage mixture. ...but then I smoked them, instead of grilling.

Pick them young and small and split down the middle then proceed as per Wampus suggests.

Slice them thick lengthwise. Small squash are halved. Larger squash can be cut in thirds. I brush both sides lightly with EVOO & give them a light sprinkle of S&P. Sometimes I might even add a little TC's Creole Seasoning. Put them on a hot grill. When I flip them the first time, I put a little butter or margarine on the top side. I do this for the other side when I flip again as well as add some grated parmesan cheese.

I use smaller yellow and zuccini slice in half, cover good with EVOO a little s&P and some montreal steak seasonong and put them on the upper rack or warming tray.. Sorry never have done Spagettie squash. have done it in the oven though.. Have done Acorn Squash on the grill, halfed and stuffed with apple cornbread stuffing with brown sugar MMMmmmm now that is good

I slice yellow squash and zucchini thick then smear with evoo, salt and pepper.
Then to a med-hot grill turn 'em once and remove while still a bit crunchy, BEFORE they turn to mush.
I cut winter squash in half scoop the insides and use butter, brown sugar, cinnamon. Roast on a medium grill until done.
I have not tried squash in the smoker yet, but cowgirls idea about filling with sausage then smoking sounds really good to me.
