• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I thought I'd post up my standard "go to" rub guide. I put my recipes in a spreadsheet by ingredient which makes it really easy to make them at the same time assembly line fashion. I've tweaked them over the years, but they're pretty basic - "works everytime" rubs. If anything, you may find putting your own rubs into the spreadsheet useful.

That is a real good idea.......
  • I like having the complete list of spices already in the margin.
  • Tweaking a rub and saving that version in the next column would be handy.
  • Being able to glance across the spreadsheet, you can tell which ingredients are popular in your rubs.
  • By using formulas, converting amounts would be really handy. You could even have it tell you percents.
  • This would work great for my sausage recipes and my brines too.
I'm seeing a new project here (as if I don't have enough irons in the fire). Since Excel files are so easy to save in template form and post, it will be easy to share ideas.

Thanks Chris

Excellent, I'm glad you guys have found it useful. I've thought about using formulas like suggested, but I'm a bit lazy and I've been cooking and baking so long that computing measurements has become so 2nd nature. It's a great suggestion however and maybe I'll work on that.

Perhaps we could develop a solid working template and put everyone's famous rub recipes on there and make it a STICKY as one master consolidated source.

I think I'll make one for sauces and mops.

Great Idea! I only see one problem, I look at spreadsheets all week at work. Now BBQ will look like work. :-P

Reminds me of the old joke.....Scientists fed all the world's knowledge into a Super Computer and the final answer it came up with was 42.
