• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I must admit I posted this on another site (before I found this one) and got some interesting and fun responses so just thought I'd give it a shot here:

Curious, how many cookbooks do you own and do you have a favorite one or two that are your go to book(s).

I currently own 14 cookbooks, all related to BBQ and Grilling. I found it interesting when I thought about it my three go to books are by Weber, Char-Broil, and Traeger (I don't own a Traeger grill but downloaded it off the net). There are others I like but seem to always find something along the lines of whatever I'm looking to do in those three.

Have to admit I'm not very good with recipes. Look for something that looks good and then usually end up changing things to fit more along the lines of our flavor profile. The only problem with this is that I sometimes (often) don't write down the changes that I made to a particular recipe. When it turns out exceptionally good I sometimes have trouble recreating it. Dang, hate when that happens.... Grin Huh? Tongue

Approximately 75 of all various types. Started collecting used old Cajun cookbooks years ago from ladies auxiliary groups from south Louisiana.

I don't have any. My wife has one somewhere. Not trying to be an a$$hat just don't have any.

I have a couple of BBQ cookbooks, but overall cookbooks probably about 45ish. I started cooking before you could look everything up on line. My go to cookbook (before I found The Brethren) was The Southern Living Cookbook. Now when I want a recipe, I reach out to The Brethren. I believe this group has one of the best collections of great cooks in the world who are more than happy to share and help others learn. I have become a better cook because of it.

I just took a minute to go count. I have 28 cookbooks on general cooking and baking, going back as far as Escoffier and including James Beard and Jeff Smith. 4 books on sausage and/or meat smoking. Only 2 specifically on bbq: Smoke and Spice and Peace Love and Barbecue.

Actually it just occurred to me that I have a few vegetarian/macrobiotic cookbooks that I missed counting because they've been banished from the "serious cookbook" shelf. ;)

200+. We have a lot of regional cookbooks -- French, French sub-regions, Italian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Cajun, Caribbean, German, Vietnamese, and Korean.

We have a zillion. Well, maybe not that many. These days, I find most recipes I need online and then bookmark them on the computer.

Around 30ish, but I stopped buying them a while back thanks to the Internet. Now if there's something I want to learn, I google it, read a few dozen recipes on the subject, pick a favorite, print it and cook it. If it's a winner it goes into one of my large binders with notes on future changes if any. It sure cut down on storage space.. I mean, let's face it, you only really cook a limited number of recipes from a cookbook. Now I have books only filled with things I know I will cook.

That's a good take on the subject. I don't have many cook books - maybe 5 or so & I don't want any more. Not that they aren't good & every one of them has lots of super looking recipes that I'll probably never do. Most of my inspiration comes from places like BBQ-Brethern.

100+, I like em. Internet is most righteous, but I still like the book.

I do something very similar (and I easily own over 100 cookbooks because I am old). If I am looking for a particular recipe, I'll google it and then make a little chart with everybody's different version and how much they use of each ingredient. I'll look over the chart and kind of mix and match based on what I like and my personal experience. I do that all the time now instead of buying cookbooks.

MSD collects cook books it could be 1000 but we still use the net and have many hand written recipes.

i probably have between 30 and 40. I really like the Dinosaur BBQ book and the first Big Bob Gibson book. Peace Love and BBQ is a good read too, there's a lot more to that one than just recipes

The Wife has a Scad of them but I do not know how to cook.

I had a bunch of BBQ books until I read Aaron Franklin's Meat Smoking Manifesto. I've since packed up the other dozen or so BBQ books for the Wife to sell at the Church rummage sale.

20-30 if I had to guess but like others, I don't get my recipes these days from cookbooks. I google them and then make changes as necessary.

Other than a novelty, I haven't bought a new cookbook in 10 years or so, probably more.

I have 3. I generally look recipes up online print them and cook them. If they are good they go into the binder. If they aren't good they are thrown out. That binder is the oo mighty to me though better never lose it

We are like Smoke Dawg. I guessed about 150 but the wife said more like 350. They are everywhere and we never stop. We also use binders but I still haul out several go to books routinely. I just hope we live long enough to eventually try one recipe from each of them. Sometimes they are just fun to browse for inspiration. Lately I've been buying the Kindle version when available, much to the disdain of the head cook. She wants a hardcopy even though we have them stacked everywhere. We don't need them but we enjoy them. No kids to send to college so why not. Fun thread.

I have hundreds, mostly packed away. I have about a dozen I keep out because I use them.
