• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I have made some mods to my fire box on my Spicewine. The charcoal basket in previous thread. Don't know if I did this right but here goes.

The bolt with a little bit larger nuts welded to ash pan and inserted in top of fire grate, keep both ash pan and fire grate together when pulled in and out. This keeps the ash and hot coals from dropping all over everything.

Corner extensions and and upright taps keep the pan and grate from tilting down to much. I will weld a tab, or drill a small hole and put a bolt in at the end of the channel iron so the tabs will hit it and stop them from falling out if I pull it out to far, which I have already done. The extension on the back side of the grate keeps it from being pushed to far into the smoker.

I may do the same to the cooking racks at a later date. I know my welds are not as nice as Jay and Steve's but they will hold. Geess I can't leave anything alone, sorry Jay. :icon_blush:

So how long of a cook do you get with your C basket? Do you put anything in the center?

Got a 12 hour burn yesterday with 21.6 lb of Kingsford and water in the pan. Average temp ran about 240. Nothing in the middle yet but I think I have room for a pan with extra charcoal and wood chunks covered with foil so it wont catch fire.

Ok I guess it was a little confusing. the temp should have read 240 not 140. The wood and charcoal I am talking about will be in a pan that will sit in the middle of the fire grate to keep warm so it wont smolder when I do put it on the fire and the tin foil will keep the whole pan covered so sparks don't set it on fire. I think I got that right, now someone tell me how to post pic and not just links.

Well since I am diabetic and have to run to the batroom a lot, usually like when I have my hands in the middle of a bowl of meatloaf mix. I guess you could call me the tinkling tinkerer.

Yep could be the Twiddler.

Aside from adding tabs and stops to the cooking shelves, I may put a strip of metal under the cooking compartment extending past the firebox door. That way when you pull out the shelves you wont have a big mess running down the front of the firebox door. I will have to think on that one.
