• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

OK So I’m lazy, Sue me
I’ve got a pretty good size chunk of brisket left and I want to freeze it for later consumption. It’s been refrigerated for a day or two. And now I want to slice it into portions, say 4 or 5 slices per bag, half inch thick. My question is, what kind of electric knife do I use? My Cuisinart just gave up the ghost.
The trigger mechanism just fell apart. PISSED ME OFF. So, now I’m ready to buy a new one. What do you use, that your happy with??
 
I had an old one that could cut through concrete.

When that gave out, I replced it.

The new farker is a piece o crap.

Wish I could help Cabo, but I'm still searching myself
 
Get an actual knife. With a real knife there is no need for electricity to help ya out.
 
I agree, go for a good knife, the good ones ain't cheap, but well worth it. I got a couple that slice through like butter

Bread would be the only thing I would want to cut with an electric knife.
 
What good knife would ya'll recommened. I have a few nice henckels but am looking to move up to the next level.
 
henckels are it. Ya don't need anything more than that. There may be some more expensive ones, but for the guy at home that should be all you ever need.
 
Call me crazy but I an in love with my Miracle Blades that my father gave me for my birthday. Only time he ever gave me what I wanted instead of what he wanted me to have. I like these knives so much I take them to other people's houses to cut stuff.

THe best knife is the one that feels the most comfortable in your hand. Iy's the one you'll use the most.

ok ok I will be happy with mine, I just see these more expensive ones out there (I guess price does not have to mean better)
 
Show me some quality steel and I'm usually willing to open the wallet! Love the Henckels(mostly 4 star) we have. Hold an edge well and great quality. I don't need to spend more than what they cost. DFLittle has suggested Farberware in the past, I think. We have a few of those and they hold an edge well too, and have a good heavy feel. In fact the last knife I bought was a Farverware Santoku for about $7 after discount at Linens n Things. I wanted to make sure I'd use it before shelling out the cash for a Henckels. I do, but haven't felt the need to replace it.
 
Bill used to swear by his electric knofe and I never owned one.. So I went out an d bought one.. used it on a turkey and it made all these wobbly lines on the slices....

used it on a brisket and it was leavin all these wobbly lines on the slices..

Dont like wobbloy stuff on my slices.. and it dont cut a thin slice as well as I can with a sharp henckel So, decided it cuts thru the joints on whole chicken real easy... also makes short work of small shrubbery.

You need the exercise.. :P) Get a real knife.. leave the electric one in the shed.
 
Ok, Ok, I digress Henkels it shall be. Lest I piss off The Brethren and get something sub standard. :shock: Geeez it was only electric… and anyway it broke. Give a guy a break.. 8)
 
Well, you have to be careful with Henkels.....they've started putting out some really lower priced and lower quality knives. I think some are stamped blades, not forged....cheaper handles, etc.

They still make a good couple lines, but, do be careful. If you see them in Kmart...well, you get the picture.

I'm personally saving up to buy my last set of knives in one swoop. I want like a 26 piece block set of Wusthof Trident knives...with Grand Prix handles. Will be about $1300...but, like I said, last knives I'll ever need.

If you like to cook....spend the money once I say, and get the best. If you figure out how much you spend replacing cookware and knives over your lifetime...it is probably better to just get good stuff and have it last you.

I believe this is the best site I've found for that large set I want...other sites have it, but, this set has the best selection of knives...3 sizes of chef's knives..all large.

With that said....I LIKE a good electric knife for my smoked foods. I've got an old (Black and Decker?) one that keeps chugging along. When you're a bit tanked after a good smoking session (and who isn't?)...and you're trying to server a room full of people, it is quick and easy.

And saves a bit of wear and tear on the arms when you've got a LOT to cut up...

Not sure of best brands of electrics...but, I thin the B&D ones are pretty nice...just have to shop around and look them over in person to see what looks to be the sturdiest ones out there. I think Faberware put one out awhile back that was good...and you might look into Kitchen Aid.

Hell, for that sake...get an old one off eBay..cheap and disposable....

Exactly my point. The one you bought was a piece o crap. My new one does that.

My old one ran at a much faster speed and the blades were half the thickness of the current one, but stiff a heck. The new ones are made of fricking tin or something and bend and bow as you cut.

okay, going beyond electric

Does anyone have a Henkel slicing knife?

I've seen them. They are serated and cost about $70.

I do have the professional S series, and love them, but they are not great for "thin" slicing of brisket and such. When the meat is cold, I can cut brisket super thin with a Henkel Chefs knife. Wondering if a slicing knife is any better
