• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

OK, did some searching and have some quesitons. What is involved in maintaining my Klose Smoker? I've already noticed the firebox starting to rust. What is the recommendation for dealing with rust, getting it off and protective coating. Painting an option? What do you guys do? Anybody see covers made specifically for smokers? Thanks guys, lets hear the details. Scott

Get a wire brush and a can of Rustoleum Hi Temp BBQ Black paint and touch it up. All smokers get rust and square fire boxes are more prone to it. Just have to live with it. You can use a car cover if you want. Having a BBQ shack really helps too.

I spray my cooker with peanut oil while it's warm. Now, the firebox has a cast iron skillet type of cure on it.

you might try some marine canvas for a cover. A light coat of oil after the cook won't hurt either.

Look for someone that makes boat covers if you want a custom cover made. I rub bacon grease on the top of my firebox. Sure smells good when it's preheating. Other times, I just spray on Pam.

OK, thought about the cover thing. I made sunbrella sail covers and a boom cover for my 26 ft sailboat. Still have the machine and the serge foot attachment. Hmmm.....maybe a secondary busness here....Sunbrella covers in your choice of color and possibly with your logo embroidered on it. Scott

Scott--

I hit the BYC with pam, bacon grease, peanut oil or something everytime before I preheat-- especially the firebox, and then, like Samichlaus said, when cooking is done, but the steel is still pretty warm, hit the firebox again with the oil. So far so good....Don't forget to oil the hinges....

I usually spray the Bandera with oil during the cook and then while it's cooling down. Keeps the rain off well. I did find a heavy duty cover a year ago and keep that on it now as well but the oil did a good job without it.
