Need to report in on the Shack sauce. Way too peppery for me. My friend who made it complained of a hangover feeling every morning after getting into it. Upset belly.

I will make it next time and come off the 4 oz of pepper by reducing it to 1 oz. Then I'll up the garlic powder and add in minced onions and red peppers.

BTW, Food Lion has Kraft BBQ sauce (18 oz) on sale for .50 cent each. I stocked up. Kraft original is still my favorite. Can't go wrong. I got many varieties. OOOhh yeahhh

I made it a while back and it was to much pepper for me also,i thought i must have farked up. i feel better now

Its funny that you posted about Shack sauce today, Mark... I was putting some JD fatties into the freezer, and I have a ziploc of Shack sauce in the freezer. Its not frozen solid. Just sort of thick! I wonder what is in it that keeps it from freezing solid?

BTW, mine was too hot, too... Tasty, but hot...

I made this shack sauce following the recipe very closely , even using the Grapette. Every time I used it I had a sour belly the next morning. I gave a bottle to Mark (Brauma) and he agreed the pepper was a bit strong. His mother in law tried it and gagged so bad she almost passed out. If I ever make it again I will reduce the pepper to 1 oz, and skip the grapette. My son tasted it, and said he could really taste the grape. Not what I was expecting. I have several books on sauces and rubs, and believe me there are a lot of good receipes out there where you don't have to worry about making your mother-in-law ill, or waking up with a sour belly WITHOUT drinking vast quantites of alcohol.

The recipes calls for 4 oz of each dry ingredient, I am assuming that is 4oz per volume.

I just started a batch and the pepper does stand out. I think I would at least cut that by half. Hope my friends like it because I know my wife will not.

i made the stuff a few weeks back and i agree its waaaaaaaaay to much pepper, i hated to do it but i poured the whole pot outside on the ground, i did find a use for it though cause it sure killed the grass well

Shack sauce/Roundup mod

I made this stuff a while ago and I've seen so many people say how good it is that I figured I must have made it wrong. I didn't like it at all, it's the first sauce I made that I poured out. I guess you can't like them all!

Not one to give up, I took about 1/4 cup of the shack sauce, 1/4 cup ketchup and about a 1/4 cup of brisket drippings. That came out pretty good. I would think this sauce would work if you did cut it down to 1 oz pepper(or less).

You ever thought that maybe this guy had shares of black pepper stock and was trying to drive up the price?

I still like it just the way it is. Now I did us fresh ground pepper, and not the stuff that is micro fine.

That might be the difference. I used fresh ground pepper and thought it was great.
