• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I hope I don't jinx myself because I didn't want to say anything at all until it was a done deal but I need some serious info. I might have lucked out and I'm trying to put this deal together so I need your input.

Here's the question and this is all I'm asking.

"If money wasn't that much of an object and knowing what you do today which smoker would you get for competition and why?"

When I asked about smokers I also met which model too. In other words if you had your pick of them all which would you choice to take to the comprtitions?

Now nothing might ever come of this but I need your input on this question to keep the idea alive and maybe ever make it possible.

Thanks!!!

Now that's what I'm talking about. It can be a combination of any two smokers that can be used in competition.

I would still like to know peoples reasons why certain brands and models work better for them.

Question is about comp smoker.
1st key to comp cooking is consistent, predictable results.
Many cookers will do that once you learn them.

2nd key is being alert and awake on turn-in day to give it your "best".

Spice's cookers are reported to work very well.
Dave's Kingfisher Gator is a dream with all the control and different heat zones available.

$$ no object?? I'll take a pair of FEC 100s, Thank you.

Consistent and predictable. I can get some quality rest to get ready. Fuel is simple and reasonably priced and flexible (flavor wise).

Put my vote there.

For the best of both worlds, I'd go with one FE-100 and one good stick burner. Each one will do things the other won't as well.

The FE is a dream for fuel. Three 3# coffee cans will hold all the fuel you'll need for 24+hours of continuous use. Rain, cold and wind won't touch them. Hard cooker to beat.

For a stick burner I'm very fond of this design http://www.batespitts.com/ba70b.html

It's compact, will burn sticks or charcoal in a basket, will cook low or very hot and has excellent capacity. Very versatile.

I was going to go down this path as well!! I normally cook on a kingfisher (pictured on my website) Hard to beat a double insulated Gator or King Gator. BUT - Tim is exactly right. Money being no object - ITs hard to argue with two FEC's with the extra $250 for the new controllers that are coming out shortly. Not only do they turn out consistant product, but it is quality product. Many teams do very well with them.

I have a 5th wheel Toy hauler that we bought last fall to take to contests - It is having a winch installed to get my KF Gator in and out. While the shop is working on that - I'm using the owner's FEC-100. I have cooked on it twice, (and Wayne B (meathead) once) - and we pulled down a reserve Grand this weekend. It puts out great food, and is simple to use...GREAT for sleep

Having said that - my top 3 for someone building a new rig would be:
1. Cookshack/Fast Eddy FEC-100 (pair)
2. Ole Hickory Pit (ssg probably)
3. Kingfisher Gator - Double Walled

Personally, I love my Kingfisher - so if you could build a double walled, rotisserie, that could have a water, and take a pellet system - IT would be just about perfect.

If $$ is no problem I would With Ole Hickory Pit it dose a great job and it takes little for fuel also. I have cooked on 8 diferant pits and it is great if you have the cash. but it did not fit on my trailer or my buget so I went with The spiceironworks smoker and love the way it works and it is the best cooker that I cooked on so far,

Several smaller smokers to obtain different flavors, but if you want to cook larger amount for parties etc the it becomes a pain.
