• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I've been whailing on my smoker since I got it and today I'm gonna scrape, washing and clean, touch up some rust spots on the top of the fire box, season and seal.

The paint at the top of my fire box door and back have rusted already only after a few months. Not sure why. Maybe because I didn't season the outside much before building fires or something. I used wood wrong for a while too so I have crecil[sp?] flaking off and I need to get that out along with just built up greese in the cooking chamber. I use large foil down there but I still get some.

Just went to Home Depot and got the Heat paint for smokers and grills.

DARN!
I forgot to pick up some red heat paint to put my logo on my smoker. lol I remember reading that you could do that and someone here had.

Have a great day guys.

Hey Pit.. hope your just talking about the outside.. .dont be scraping and unseasoning the inside.. its that buildup inside that you want.. does something(according do dave klose)...not sure if it helps the steel retain heat or what, but everytime he sees my pit(yes pictures).. he comments on how "Well seasoned" it is..

As far as the outside goes... its chipped, peelin and rusting.. get over it.. it aint you.. its gonna happen over and over... best you can do is spray the firebox with oil when its cooling down to help protect the rusts spots... I give mine a fresh coat of paint once a year. Hit it wih a wire wheel, light a small fire to warm the steel and paint it. Let it cure in the sun if ya can. Just painted the BYC after the grillkings competition. When i saw the pictures and how god awful that thing looked.. painted it the next day. Now Huge is all purdy..

I do have to do some scraping on the inside becaise it has HUGE creo. bubbles and is falling into food. My guess is because I saeason the inside well before I used it that the flake are flaking because of the oil coat. I'll not scrape into that and just knock off all the crap.

As for the paint I think I'll be ok when I finish my BBQ Pit Shack and it's out of the weather.

Thanks for the help bro
