Score! Yet another UDS thread

So...I was telling a buddy about this UDS I been wanting to build and if he knew where I could get a drum around here. He kept dragging his feet about it until we were out grilling in the garage this weekend. (It was raining...doors open...fan running. )

Anyway, I brought it up again and he must have finally got excited about it because I came home to 3 - 55gal drums and a 30 gal drum. Sweet. Now it's time to get busy.

I been sifting through a bunch of the other UDS threads, and I think the only thing I don't have figured out is where do you guys get the temp guage and how much is it? Any leads will be appreciated. I will also take pictures and update this thread once I get started.

Got mine at Academy for around 6 bucks I think.

Think I got mine at Lowes for around $12. But i will soon switch to a maverick 73 available from Amazon. About $43. I think thats the way to go, it has two probes, one for the grate temp and one for the meat. It may even be the cure for my peeking/tasting problem.

I got one at Wal Mart, in with the BBQ parts $16.00. It has a 1" brass nut on the brass body with a proper 1/2" pipe thread and locknut to thread into a clean 3/4" hole. It has a very beefy probe. Some installed pics on my thread here:

Mount it 1" below the rack or so.
