• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Is rust a natural phenom on these smokers? Everytime i fire it up it is a little worse. If it is I can deal with it just want to know if I am doing something wrong.

Sorry, I’m not familiar with the particulars of the
Smoke King, but I spray my cooker with Pam before and after a cook.
It seems to keep the rust problem at a minimum

I don't have any rust on my BSKD. I do keep it covered, and I wipe down any dry spots with veg. oil on a small rag before fire up(to cook it in) and when it begins to cool down too. You may need to sand up your rust spots and repaint, or you may never get ahead of it.

I had the same problem. The #$%& wind blew the cover off of my Brinkmann at work (then it rained) and the fire box got a nice coating of rust on it. I sanded as much as I could with a "green pad" and then hit it with layer after layer of high temp paint from Lowe's. It looks better than new, now. I hope this lasts a few weeks.

I sure hope that this a only an occasional happening. My planned move to the salty coast may be in jepardy.

We smoked steaks on it today (for an hour) and they turned out fine!

Don't bother with repainting it. It's jut going to burn off. Best bet is vegetable oil. When the temp starts going down shoot some oil on it and let it cook in a little. Like doing a cast iron pan. Neat part of it is if the temp is not hot enough the oil will not harden and little bugs will get stuck to it, then when you fire it off next time they all burn up. Cool.
