• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Hi, i had a look in the recipe section but didn't really see anything that was rated or stood out to me.

Im looking for an all round BBQ/Smoker rub recipe that can be used on anything, also an all round BBQ marinade/mop that can also be used on anything.

Hope I haven't opened a can of worms here :behindsofa:

Don't think you will find a all round rub recipe. Only all round recipe is salt and pepper maybe with some garlic and onion powder. I don't like sugar in my beef rubs, and like it simple. For pork I like sugar and a little more complex of a rub. Chicken is like sort of a mix of pork and beef rub but with no sugar, personally I like bad byrons butt rub for chicken.

For a slather a all rounder is just apple juice with apple cider vinegar 1:1 mixture.
Good luck, sure others will chime in. These are just my personal preference.

I second SPOG as a good, universal rub. I have a hard time thinking of one marinade/mop I would use on all meats. Maybe some kind of veggie stock to spritz with?

I also agree, Salt and Pepper are great basics, add the granulated Onion and Garlic as desired.

if you want more than basics you can try Mike Mills Magic Dust..

1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons mustard powder
1/4 cup chili powder

I agree with MadMan. Other than salt and pepper, Mike Mills Magic Dust is a pretty good basic rub.
Here is one I have used for years as a simple all around rub, with good success.

1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup coarse ground black pepper
1/2 cup paprika
1/4 cup kosher salt
1/4 cup chili powder
2 tablespoons granulated garlic
