• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I find with the royal oak there are very small pieces and very large pieces. Do you guys break up the larger ones or leave them like wood chunks? I wish there was a way not to have to throw out a bags worth every 5 or so bags!

I burn it all. Love the big pieces.
Just had 2 kettles going with it, and it was a really good cook.

Surely your not throwing away the big pieces.

By the way, I noticed that my local Walmart started carrying Royal Oak this year. And according to the Lump Charcoal Database, it's the "regular" bag, which has high burn time and low ash production.

Maybe try making a basket out of expanded metal to hold the charcoal. Might help contain the smaller pieces.

I had a few pieces that were 4"x8" this weekend that I broke in half.

I always leave mine alone. The bigger, the better. My local Wally World always has the RO lump for $5.27/20lb bag.

This thread and Andy just got me thinking about doing the expanded metal thing to my charcoal box. Maybe put the grate in the box, dump new lump in there, pull the grate and lump out together, and then dump the dust back in the bag. Gold Rush sieve mod

For 20 lb. bag or 10 lb. bag, the price here for RO lump at WalMart is $5.95 for a 10 lb. bag...

i have to have "made in the usa" royal oak.

the local gfs has 20# both paraguay and usa ro lump.

ro from paraguay is very sparky and scary.

10# usa ro @ wallyworld here for $5.27
