Any one have any plans to make a basket for this rotisserie unit i have installed onto the weber kettle 22.5

http://www.lowes.com/SearchCatalogD...051&N=0&newSearch=true&Ntt=rotisserie&x=0&y=0

I cook more thighs than i do whole chickens and would like to roast em rather than smoke em at times. just to kinda switch things up a we bit. I have the showtime rotisserie basket but i cant seem to figure out a way to get it to hook to my roasting spit.

thanx

Matt

Have you checked out a Rib-o-Lator???
I have. But i already own the rotisserie unit. So no need to buy one. Will the rib o later even work with a kettle? I dont have the weber ring. All i have is an aluminum flashing i got from homedepot and hooked the end together to form a ring. Anyway. I really dont wanna buy a new unit, just wanna somehow make a basket for what i all ready have.

thanx

EDIT.

just noticed it slips onto my existing spit rod.. Now im interested...only problem is i dont have room in my kettle for it because i have the mounts at rim level.

Yes it will, assuming you have the rotisserie ring for the kettle. The Rib-o-lator is just an attachment for your rotisserie.

DANG IT. all i have is this: Its 10$ for 15 feet(i think) of aluminum flashing, uncoated. So i just let it un roll itself and now it holds my lid. Works great but now i need a basket. Rib o later might be out of the question..

Wait, who is on the video and who created those packaging boxes? I remember last year a post on q Talk about the color scheme for those.

I have to chime in because I own a Ribolator and swear by it for babybacks and chicken. I'm still not ready to try fish but soon, very soon, there might be some trout rolling around one day.

If you are wondering if it will fit a Weber kettle just check out this link for measuring.

Here is a pic of my first ribs on the ribolator and I had no idea what I was doing. My brothers will attest to that but they ask to take some home now.

That is three racks of ribs finishing up with sauce and a whole load of chicken thighs. One warning, chicken will slide around so you have to make sure the tray is balanced or it may tip and dump. Ribs generaly sit in one place and behave.

pick up a Char-Broil rotisserie basket, toss the cheap thumbscrews and replace them with stainless steel eye bolts. $9 and they are fun to play around with.

Have you consider putting the spit rod through the thighs? Like big kebabs of sorts.

I have thought about giants kebabs but when the meat is almost done and is nice and tender, im afraid they will fall off.

As of right now i have the ronco showtime basket jimi rigged onto the spit. i have the spikes running threw the cross bars of it. It will kinda work.

The rib o later will have to be a later investment. But my question is, How is it self basting if the fat doesnt rotate around the meat like you see with other rotisseries? To me, it seems the fat would still drip straight down rather than around the meat. The char broiler basket i did not know even existed. When i replace the thumb screws with the eye bolts, what secures them on. Maybe the eye bolt of thinkin of aint the same one as you mean.

thanx guys

Don't worry. They will not fall off. It has been tried before. Then again whenever I have seen people put the meat straight on the spit they cooked the chicken in 2 hours tops. So... Maybe if you use butchers string to hold all the kebabs together and on the spit.

Hmm, ill have to try it out. I have bout 12 thighs. Hopefully, the spit wont turn inside the meat leaving the meat standing still. HAHA. I hate money. But luckily i dont have any money to hate so im ok. haha. School is so expensive and books are a rip off. GOnna hate to see what my chem book is gonna cost me!!

Try to put the spit as close to the bone as possible. You only need a couple of pieces to be stable and you can connect the rest using toothpicks.

I hear you about the books. My way of saving money was to order used books the semester before if you can plan ahead.

I either do that or try and download em in pdf format. I swear i choose the most expensive major. Mechanical engineering, but i dont start till my gen ed is done. Only been in school 2 years.

Sweet action. i might try this rather than using the jimi rigged showtime basket. Ill just put em on close to the bone and then use toothpicks to hook em all together. im finding that i like chicken pieces better than a whole chicken. Its cheaper at times to.

thanx

What all is included in the rib o later for the kettle? does it come with a ring that is universal for the kettle and UDs like the video showed? or is it just the faris wheel?

thanx

Does your basket look like this?

The spit rod goes right through. More than enough room for thighs.

No, mine looks kinda like that but it does not have square holes for the spit rod. the ronco uses a dual spit rod assembly so the jimi rigged basket has 4 holes: but i just got back from lowes and they had a 14 inch basket for 5$. So im now set. Man, your basket looks bigger than mine. Is that an 18 inch WSM? If it is, then thats why it must look bigger.
