• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Wanting to get a rotisserie going on the WSM, kinda open fire thing. I'd like to put a wood and/or charcoal fire in the bottom section, put on the middle section, no deflector or lower grate, then put on the roti, then a lid (optional). Down our way to do this we get a Weber roti (mains power) and a Kettle lid (this is about US$350 for the two items).

What non-Weber options do I have in the USA? - I am over there at the end of May for two weeks and may be able to bring things back with me.

TIA.

For the way you are wanting to cook I'd just simply notch out a drum 3" down and mount a rotisserie motor bracket. Simply put a basket in the bottom and drill some intakes. Your cost will be minimal and it can be a dedicated wood roti cooker aka bird barrel.

Now I have the CB rings and love them but for open fire roti the drum is the way to go.

My basket is 18.5" and is 5" off the bottom. You'll be able to get some nice fire's going to roti over.

If you definitely want to use the WSM then the cajun bandit fits tightly and is reversible for the kettle grills also and comes with a quality cordless motor that has an optional power cord adapter.

See if you can get your hands on one of these. I was recently given the 18 inch to play with and I really like it. I used it on my PBC and on a Weber Jumbo Joe as well. Worked flawlessly on the Weber.

Its built quality is pretty solid especially for the price. Motor is super quiet. Here are some pics and details.

Like I said, it worked excellent on the Jumbo Joe and I don't think a WSM or a 22 kettle would be an exception

And on the PBC. Worked great on the PBC also but due to it not being designed for a PBC the ring is a bit narrow for the barrel which creates leaks. Fits fine besides the gap though. It's a non issue for me because if I do rotisserie, I'm going to go hot and fast anyway. The 22 inch should work for your WSM really well for the fraction of the cost if you can get your hands on one. Check Ebay perhaps if not Amazon??

Perhaps you might want to get the Cajun Bandit Rotis that works with both kettle and WSM, and take a WSM back also! I don't know if they are available in NZ, if not that would be quite a score.
