• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I got some rib racks on clearace at Lowe's quite some time back. I have never been real comfortable useing them The ribs don't seem to sit well in them, just the whole setup makes me lose confidence in what I am try to do. I have had pretty good luck not using the racks but there are times when I have wanted to cook for a group and have not had room. Any sugestions about the racks. I was looking a Mistas pics of his chargriller with the ribs and got me thinking about it. I cook on a chargriller also.

Rib racks can work just fine, especially when needing to cook large qty and space is at a premium.

Rib racks come in all shapes and sizes. A wider base and more space between dividers is usually best so the ribs sit right, don't have the ends touch and make it easy to accomodate wrapping in foil if you use it.

You got any pics of your racks? Other then the way they sit, what makes you feel uncomfortable about them?
Oh what type of ribs are you using?

I use rib racks all the time with no problems but when I first used them I questioned them to. I have the cheap one's I think I bought them for 6.00 and they hold six racks the work well. Baby backs dont fight real well but spares do on mine the racks are alittle close.

I use untrimmed spares, I think part of trouble is I have the mindset that since they are sitting vertically I will not get the nice color on them.

Untrimmed spares could be your issue. They could be pretty flimsy and flop over on the rack behind them making you think they are not getting their fair share of heat & smoke. As for vertical ribs, I would say it does not matter how they are in the cooker. The heat and smoke will still do their thing.

Thanks for your input, I will try trimming my ribs up next time and see how it goes. You hit the nail on the head they seemed "floppy" wanting to tip and lay on one another.

I have one and used it for years when I have a lot to smoke!

Never had any problems and they look the same as laying flat.

We use rib racks when I need to cook a bunch.

I have 4 of them and they each hold 12 slabs. My teammate Jeff Murray and I built them and they cost about $200 for the 4 of them. They are built like tanks.

We've but bottoms on the rib racks since this pic was taken.
