• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Hey Smoking Folks, My old bandera tower smoker fire box is shot and needs replacement! I have shopped all over and finally found some newer versions available. Any comments about OKJ Bandera Smoker at Wallmart, is this really thicker steel like the old Bandera? How bout Charbroil newer Bandera Smoker offered by thegrilloutlet.com? I`m leaning towards OKJ it looks like heavy steel. Any suggestion will be appreciated! Raw Dawg Ron

Stuck on the off set smoke box for smoking fish with seasoned wood. Have no problem moving racks around hot spots for thicker fish. Tend to have a very small fire on far end for fine smoked fish! Waited too long, have ordered an OKJ and will make some upgrades too!

I was in the same boat as you a few weeks back. My old Charbroil Bandera bit the dust after many good years and I was looking for a replacement. I found the Walmart OK Joe one and contacted them the inquire on the gauge of the steel.

I can't find the email with the exact number but it acutally thinner than what my old pit was, which was 1/8th if I recall.

Most Likely 14 Guage. 1/8" is roughly 11 Guage. 1/8" would be pretty Decent.

2.5mm = 0.0984 = 3/32"

Thicker than 14 guage - which most of the Old Country's are IF it is 2.5mm. It'll be OK.

Sure it's a great pit for the money...Not at all the same as the "old" OK Joe smokers...I dont know what I'll do when my Longhorn burns out...

The firebox is 2.5mm as well? How long could one expect that to last with regular use? Just curious...

Wally World finally is shipping an OKJ, didn't think they could find one either. When it finally get`s here I`ll check steel thickness and report on overall condition! My old Bandera stood up outside for 15 years and only had fire box rust out then stuffed with aluminum foil for a quick fix. Gonna find a heavy propane tank type grill and add my old bandera tower to it! Keep OKJ for backup and will take care of this one, you know clean out fire box and splash some veggie oil on any rusty spot. Gotta try some of you`alls smoking meat suggestions!
