Lived in and around Atlanta all my life and have never encountered rice and hash. Only Brunswick stew.

My first encounter with rice and hash occurred in Seneca, SC. Not a fan, by the way...

I think they meant "hot" smoked as in - 300+ degrees over direct heat vs. Slow smoked via offset cooking method....
