• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I recently was told by an older gentlemen in my area that red oak was poisonous to use for cooking. I have been using red oak for the past 6 months and had no bad reactions so I am questioning the advice. Has anyone here used red oak?

Poison oak is poison. As far as I know Red, White, Black, Valley, Live & Tan all of the other oaks I know of are good, some better than others. There are a bunch of threads on this site talking about cooking specifically with red oak and I haven't read about anyone getting sick.

I would say he does not anything about bbq wood , smoke on brother .

Poor guy doesn't have a clue. Red oak is good stuff. I get on kicks sometimes and use it for weeks on end and I feed my BBQ to a lot of folks. Nobody ever got sick from it. Lol

If he says it loudly and with a high degree of certainty, he must be right!

He must have a lead on a source that he's keeping you away from.

As stated by many others.... If it were poison, I'd be dead even I were a cat.

I use red oak all the time,,even last night.
i find for smoke it can be to intense if used for a long time.

for cooking over the fire or coals it is great.
