• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Hello everyone, I’m in the process of making a Big Baby Double Barrel Smoker. I have been researching it like crazy. But I still have a couple of question.
1. Before installing the firebox doors and collar rings. What can I use to seal around it that will not burn or melt?
2. I have a 6 inch exhaust pipe collar that I’m thinking of installing just above the lower gate on the side of the cooker. Can I reduce it to a 4 inch pipe?
3. How long should the exhaust pipe be?

Thank you in advance, I know I’ll have many more questions before I’m finish.

1. I used a high-temp silicone seal (I think mine goes to 500 degrees) from Home Depot.

2. You could use a 4" pipe, depending on the answer to #3

3. I have twin 24" exhaust pipes (urr urr urr) on mine. The length is up to you, but it's better to go too long than too short. Larger exhaust=higher possible temps.

If you're going with a 4" exhaust collar, I would go at least 18" on the exhaust pipe, maybe even 24".

This being said, are you SURE you want to build one? A UDS is simpler. I know.

Thank you for the information. I’ve looked into a UDS and just not liking it. I already have a Brinkmann Gourmet Electric Smoker. It’s a little small and not able to cook more than two things at a time. So trying to stay cheap and give me a little project to do.
Thank you

If you researched it like crazy, you are aware of the pros and cons of that particular design.

Party on Garth!

(I'd do the UDS instead but w/e- it's your thing)

send pictures!

Are you planning on stick burning or charcoal? I have Always heard those things are Fuel HOGS.

I'm going to try both to see which one works better.

You are welcome.

One more thing: The two critical cuts for your double barrel are the door on the upper barrel and the holes to connect the upper and lower barrels. Use a jigsaw, unless you are a Sawz-all ninja, or have an ample supply of barrels.

LOL, I'm a little worried about those cuts myself. But we will see what happens on Saturday if the weather holds up.
