• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

If i want to use for like an oven say at 450degrees do i leave the heat deflector pan in? I was thinking yes, that the only time i would take it out is for cooking direct over the fire pot. I think i saw though in manual that for anything over 350 you should take the deflector out. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

The standard 1-piece deflector is limited to 400° to prevent warping.

The optional 2-piece one can remain in place at any temperature.
You just remove the insert for direct grilling.

Worth every penny to upgrade.

Thanks, that's what i was looking for. Yea i saw one of the new deflectors when i purchased the 640, just don't have another 200$ right now to spend on it.

Actually the new one piece reinforced deflector shield can be left in place for high temps. Yoder offered a replacementrue to existing owners for the cost of shipping. That may still be going on so you might check. I have the new two piece unit.

Well the date on my tag is Feb-2016. My 1 piece deflector sure looks heavy duty compared to what i see people pulling out of theres on youtube. It was the same gauge material as the 2-piece just didn't have the cutout.

Thanks for catching that.

I went straight to the 2-piece and forgot all about the 1-piece upgrade.
I think that my reason, if I remember correctly, was the weight of the upgraded plate.
I like to be able to pull the insert and vacuum the fire pot instead of wrestling the plate to clean.

Either would be an improvement over the original plate.
