• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

My wife and I will be in MO in the fall for her High School Reunion. I was wondering if y'all could recommend any good BBQ joints. We will be flying in and out of St. Louis but she's from a couple of hours north of there. Anything in St Louis really good or along 61 North to Palmyra or Canton area?

Last 2 trips up there we tried to find a good place before we flew out and ended up at a Steak & Shake. I told her not this time! Any help is appreciated.

Honestly I dont eat out at BBQ joints much because I BBQ so much myself I usually am in the mood for something else when we go out. I would say the two most popular places around here right now are Pappy's and Sugarfire. Ive never been to Pappy's but have heard good things and Sugarfire is pretty good. Pappy's is downtown and sugarfire has a few locations but i only know of the one in St. charles and the one down the street from me in Winghaven (neither near where you will be). I would give Pappy's a try, ive only heard good things.

In St. Louis, Pappys, Bogarts, and Sugarfire are the top Bbq spots. All nationally recognized for good reason. Pappys and Bogarts share same ownership, both are in the city. Sugarfire has a city location and county. Franchised locations have not gotten the rave reviews as the original.

Hope that helps.

I'm on vacation there right now and will agree with pappys and bogarts. From my experience bogart was a lot shorter of a wait. Don't forget to stop in at St. Louis bbq store. Great customer service.

Went to Pappy's about 10:30 am on a Sunday morning before they opened at 11am, I believe it was. There was already a small line, but it was out the parking lot and around the corner when I left. Might want to check the Cards schedule as that draws more tourists who hit Pappy's. It was pretty darn good! I will try Bogarts next time to compare as I have heard good things.

Oddly enough right now on bizarre foods travel channel their in St. Louis going to BBQ restaurants.

if you've never been to St. Louis you also need to try the gooey butter cake and imos pizza. The pizza you will either love it or hate it because of the provel cheese but I never leave without a 5lb block to bring home.

Thanks for all the replies. Since we will be staying outside of Hannibal, we will probably give Big Muddys a try first then something in St Louis before we leave.

You know it's funny, we (my family) never eat at BBQ joints here either. Been to Salt Lick once and one of the Lockhart places once but couldn't tell you which one it was. Lol. Actually, we stop in sometimes and pick up chopped brisket sandwiches mostly out of convenience on the way when we are going hunting, but we don't seek out any places to try. I guess I'm just excited about trying a different style of BBQ. Heck, y'all have your own cut of ribs so it's gotta be good right?!?!

My wife just said she loves their pizza!

I haven't tried it yet but I hear nothing but good things for Big Muddys BBQ. It was recently awarded Trip Advisor's "Best of Hannibal Award". There is also Fatbacks BBQ and Riverside BBQ in Quincy Illinois, 20 miles east of Hannibal.

The Winghaven location for Sugarfire in O'Fallon, MO, would be pretty convenient if you're taking 61. Their smoked turkey best I've ever had, and I'm typically a pork/beef BBQ guy.

Two for 1 -- there's an Imo's next door!

Ate there for lunch today as I work around the corner. Great brisket and fantastic sides too. Today they had a pork hashbrown cheesy casserole with pulled rib meat and some of their cheese and jalapeño sausage mixed in. Awesome. Also LOVE their coffee bbq sauce. Now I'm hungry again.
