Q Restaurants Boston / San Diego

Hiya

Heading over from Oz for the Craft Brewers Conference in May in San Diego with a quick trip over to Boston for a few days. Had a look on urban spoon at some of the recommendations and reviews, but I'll trust a Brethren over a website any day.

So any place to go, I do not need high class dining, if it is hot, tasting and used to walk around, then I am into it.

blue ribbon is very good, eaten there a few times. i have a buddy that frequents there when he can't get my goods :wink: i've never tried soulfire but have heard its good as well.

When I go to Boston, I don't even think about BBQ. I go for seafood! You gotta get some good clam chowder, for sure. I'm not a big fan of lobster rolls, but that's another Boston food.

In San Diego, find some good fish tacos. You can find some good Baja style Mexican food in San Diego. That food is very fresh and light, with awesome flavors. I like it because it is very different from the heavier Tex-Mex I get here.

You won't necessarily find great BBQ everywhere in the US. You will find a lot of good regional specialties. Neither of those towns are famous for BBQ. But I'm sure you can find some good Q. But, don't pass up the local specialties in your search for BBQ.

Some good clam chowder is a MUST in Boston, IMO. A good Baja style fish taco is a MUST in San Diego, IMO.

I have near OD'ed on Chowder when living up that way ... it will definately be in the mix ... but i.need.bbq !

In San Diego, look up Brazen BBQ. TGhey are a really good comp team and they have a great restaurant. You will like their food.

For Mexican a great place with authentic food that is cooked by grand mothers in the back is Super Cocina on University just west of highway 15.

Oldtown is mostly a tourist trap.

The best Mexican food in San Diego.

For Asian check out Spicy House if you like the heat as it is a Sichuan place.

For dim sum go to Emerald Chinese Seafood.

Coops BBQ is mostly a takeout place with only a few tables but has very good bbq.
Don't go to Phil's BBQ it is a total joke.

For great prime rib go to Filippis on Mira Mesa Blvd. The best prime rib in San Diego.

Seafood is a must in Boston. The Blue Ribbon in Arlington is good for BBQ, I would stay away from Redbones in Somerville. If you like pastry, get yourself on over to Hanover St. in the North End. Mikes Pastry at 300 Hanover St. More cannoli's there than I even knew existed! Tasty too!
