• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

ProQ (Pro-Q) Frontier Smokers

Are these any good? I've a chance of picking one up cheap but I'm not sure if it's just going to collect dust whilst I continue to use the WSM...

This extremly versatile unit is great for any method of cooking, whether you want to BBQ (grill), Roast ( whole chickens/ joints of meat) or smoke your food.

It knocks down into a convenient sized "Kettle" BBQ (the lid and base lock together so you can carry it by the lid handle) which makes it ideal for taking to the beach, park or camping

Looks like a double stacker WSM. If it seals good I don't see why not. Don't think they sell them this side of pond.

Ditto what he said.
I googled them, and all the hits I got were UK sites. Lists for about 165 pounds.

It's like they took a look at the WSM and improved it:

1) Themometer.
2) Handles.
3) Hinged hatches on each section.
4) Can clip together so it can be moved.
5) You can buy more cooking chambers ($60 a pop).
6) Has a hanger in the lid for errrr hanging food off.
7) Cheaper - $330 whilst the WSM is $440 (Both still very expensive and twice what you guys pay).
8 ) Larger water pan.

A British smoker, who would have ever thought it!!! Apart from Salmon and a few other fish I didn't really think anyone smoked in this neck of the woods!!

I might get it just to do a side by side test.

Thanks for the link, I had missed that one.

I saw one recently and it's no Weber. It was kind of flimsy.

Ian (I think is his name) said you could probably add one more stacker section to it as well.
I would be interested to know if it could hold the temp for long periods.

Smoker

I've got a feeling this is going to give Weber a run for the money, flimsey or not if its cheaper and has the feature people have asked Weber to do but didn't, we'll be talking about these little cooker for awhile, don't get me wrong I luv my Kettle but sometimes the companys has got to listen to the consumer for improvements on there product....

From what I've read the WSM is made from 0.9mm steel and the Frontier from 0.8mm. The bolts holding the WSM together are a little larger.

The picture above is apparently a pre-release version and the vent in the bottom is slightly higher (it is designed to run minion style from front to back so apparently only needs one vent and it was moved so it doesn't get bunged up with ash) The thermometer has also been moved further up the dome.

I'd love to have a shot at one of those though... Flimsly does scare me a little..I tend to drink when I smoke.

I've corresponded with Ian, who is the owner of Pro-Q. He was at the Mid Atlantic BBQ Convention in Reading this April. I was at Salisbury, so I couldn't be there to see them in person. I believe that they intend to distribute them in the US by the end of the year. I think they're in the process of lining up distributers. Maybe this will wake up Weber and they make the inprovements that most of us WSM owners have suggested.

Interesting! Anybody heard from anyone that has one...if not, I nominate CarbonToe to buy it and let us know

Well there are two 'fools' in a bidding war over it at the mo, it's just gone up to $160 and it's got 4.5 days to go.

I doubt I'll be able to buy it with my $201 "ceiling"

Someone over on the "smoke ring" forum posted on these and they may be a dealer. I don't recall where they were located.

The cooker looks to offer more configuration flexibility than a WSM. Like the DR. stated, I don't think the Weber folks will worry. There is a loyal following with the WSM's and new owners every day.
