• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Pretty disappointed.

In my region, since I've been competing, I've never seen a contest hit the max number of entries and didn't expect one coming up to either. But they did and we missed out, oh well. We still want to do the contest so I tossed a post up on the fb of the cbbqs saying if anyone is on the fence or knows they don't want to compete, let us know and we would be more than happy to take the spot. A good buddy of ours messages me and says, 'I'm giving up my spot for you guys' so I email the organizer and she says that they were over booked before because someone had asked for a special entry into the comp and now with the cancelation they are at their number....
I understand its their comp and they can do what they want but I'm not sure our friend would have backed out if he knew we wouldn't be able to go and if we knew that we would have just slipped into his spot under the cover of night.

Yes, that is an issue with KCBS contests in that it is often times hard to tell who is going to a contest, and there is no team list and list of alternates if they max out. At least PNWBA contests generally have teams lists centrally posted and alternates listed in order.

Organizers have a tough enough job trying to anticipate the needs of a contest. Judges that sign up six months in advance and then cancel two days prior to the event, cooks that wait until they see the weather report for the week before committing to a contest - it's truly a planning nightmare.

It makes an difficult situation even worse when participants take it upon themselves to make deals with each other without first checking with the organizer. Replacing a Master judge with a newly minted CBJ unbalances the tables, swapping a team with a 15 foot rig for one with a 35 foot RV blows up your site assignments.

I don't think it is fair to gripe over actions taken based on assumptions that were made without consulting with the people organizing the event. That's like planning what you are going to eat before looking at the menu, and then blaming Tacotown for not serving you Gumbo.
