• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I'm looking for a "cheap" (thats my middle name!) pot luck dish...
I want to see the kind of reception, low and slow gets over here. People just don't know! Theres pork butt on sale for 1.29, so I was thinking pulled pork...but does that keep/taste good after a while? I'm trying to think how to keep it hot, I want to pull it before I go...
Any other ideas?

Pulled pork works great, if you pull it, put it in a crock pot, take it to your function, plug in on low. Add a little apple juice and/or sauce. Put out some buns, and get out of the way.
I do this all the time, and it is always the first thing devoured.

I say take McDonald's Cheeseburgers. If that doesn't sound appetizing, go with pulled pork.

Have you considered fatties or ABT's or armadillo eggs? How long do they have to hold for?

Do the pulled pork but use some of it to make a pot of Keri's Hog Apple Beans.

Keri's Hog-Apple Baked Beans

3 or 4 slices bacon, diced
2 (27 oz) cans Bush's Baked Beans
1/2 c. Blues Hog BBQ Sauce (or other sweet-spicy favorite)
1 lb. smoked leftover smoked pork or beef, more or less, or 1 lb crumbled cooked pork sausage (a maple fattie is good)
1 can apple pie filling, pieces somewhat chopped up
1 medium onion, chopped
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1/2 c. brown sugar
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp. Mustard (prepared)
1 tsp chipotle or cayenne powder (optional, to taste*)
1 tsp Blues Hog barbecue rub (or your favorite de jour)

Brown bacon, and saute onion and green pepper in bacon grease. Mix in remaining ingredients. Bake at 325Âş for 1 hour, or simmer on stovetop in large pot for 30 minutes if you don't have time to do them in the oven. Serves 12.

Pulled spam...rub and smoke for 2-3 hours, cube and put in crock pot with favorite sauce. MMMmmmmmMMMM!!

Pulled pork is the cheapest way to go in my part of the country.
Best part is .........its so damned forgiving IMHO. Extreemly hard to mess up. If you do its easy to fix. Foil it and add a liquid like broth or my favorite is apple juice and foil tightly. Give it an hour or so reheating. Then remove from heat, open foil and let it rest 30 minutes, then shred.
Save the juice from the bottom of the foil, mix it in w/the pulled pork.
You will be the frugal hero as well as Da Man!

Pulled Pork in crock pot. I add a little sauce and buy small dinner rolls since there will be other food. Don't get any back and pot looks licked clean.

Thanks for all the input guys! Yeah, you to Qman (surfings free!) and Yak! :-P I'm saving the spam for me! I'm going to smoke one next time!

Looks like pulled pork is the winner... w/ rolls...the problem here is that they'll probably eat the pork with rice, and feed the rolls to the birds!
After last week pork but, (stuck @ 185*-16 hrs never went higher) scared-mod! I think I need to look in my freezer for leftover pork!
lots of kids so ABTs and Fatties are out of the question...
