• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Portable charcoal Grill

Watched one of the videos - looks interesting. I guess all the charcoal goes down in the base and you kind of have a vortex situation going on?

Cook over an open fire using a grate on rocks spaced around the fire. Or a camp grate with legs.
If your going to want to cook slower, possibly smoke. A Weber go anywhere if packed right will fit 2 cooks worth of coal, tongs, spatula, fire starter. It would take some room, but it is your kitchen and food is everything :becky:

That Campsaver is a nice concept but seems a little pricy for what you get. I agree with ebijack get the camp grate with legs. You can use it with scrap wood you pick up or bring a small bag of briquettes with you. When we did a lot of camping that is what we did and sometimes I brought along a Smoky Joe.

I think what you are getting is a "Novelty" grill. It is neat, and stores small and has "Cool Factor". You will probably be able to cook on it.

Use the search function on this site, at the bottom of the page, and look at posts about the WGA Charcoal. It has a cult following and the folks, many in Europe, cook AMAZING food on them, including slow smoking. You will be in awe, as I am. It is engineered to be conscientious of space and will store charcoal and grill tools inside that you will need anyway for your folding novelty grill (as stated above by ebijack).

If space is a concern looks like it'll do just fine! Very innovative.

New grill got in sooner than expected! Didn't expect till Wednesday.
Tomorrow will be first cook, trying a smoke roasted pork tenderloin.
Came in good condition, assembly less than 2 minutes first time without reading instructions
Best thing so far is the case actually allowed me to put it back in without trouble
Anyone who's had sleeping bags, tents , etc know that's different.
Few pics.

Agreed- put the fire to it- let's see what it will do. I hit the ecoque site- it's pretty skimpy on info- but I was only looking at the portable. I think a few videos from satisfied users would be in order.

Well I've got a few cooks underneath my belt!
Most good , a couple of cooks I learned from
Think I'm good to go now.
Easy to use as a charcoal grill, love the grate as I'll show in pics, wide bars, easy to cook delicate seafood or veggies on. 1 lb (17 briquettes) will grill several rounds on the grill.
The grill is very stable ,wind doesn't bother much & hold a fair amount.
First cook was burgers, ground chuck, came out fine!
Best cook was a catfish filet & a couple tuna steaks. Catfish got a great sear NO STICKING 8) Tuna came out with good sear , cooked Med Rare. Really happy with the seafood. Haven't cooked a steak yet but that's an easy cook on any grill. It will get HOT!

Smoking with the cooker had a learning curve !
First cook was way to hot & overcooked a pork tenderloin
After being humbled the next two cooks were without food just my igrill probe.
For the 4th try I was brave enough to cook another pork tenderloin & it came out good.
Good smoke flavor, pulled at 120F opened up vents to heat grate & seared the outside!
Smoking I used 1 lb charcoal & 3-4 small wood chunks , I've found will smoke for almost 3 hours in cooking temps , getting it to run about 275F.
