• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Here is a link to the July PM. http://www.popularmechanics.com/home_journal/workshop/4218853.html

This guys been working hard ($15,000) and we gotta give him some love, he is on to some good science. But my oh my....The brothers here spend alot less on a UDS, WSM or what not and get great results. I don't know about 16 hrs non tending but I like the challenge of working my smoke, and I don't mind smelling like smoke.

Your thoughts?

I saw that. He could have bought a gravity fed cabinet smoker for alot less, since that's what he basicly made.

Or a Drum, oh forgot he didn't want to get dirty. Probably smokes Tufu anyway.

Khaki n' Oxford button down, never gotten dirty BBQ!
I'll pass! Hope he can sell it at Wal-Mart.

"dreaded the tedium of tending the BBQ for 16 hours. "You had to add fuel, stoke the fire, move the meat," he says. "And you'd get nasty dirty."

Ahhhhhhh didums..... If you think cookin' Q is tedious it's time to order takeout. Why bother?

Nice Shirt and Trouser (Pants) combo.......

$15,000!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a NASA contract.
I could only see about $2,000 max. from the photo.
Must be using a $12,000 PLC to control the temperature!

I need a better diagram.

The article did say that it could "now" be built for $4,000. Hmm?

Stick Burners Rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
16 hours? What could ever take that long to smoke? A whole Horse?
Smoke On!!!!!!!

Absolutely ridiculous - Guess that's what to expect from a UT grad - Proud to have reinvented the wheel, and to have wasted countless hours and dollars doing it...

I think for $15K, I'd rather just pay one of you guys to supply me with good Q to eat.

For real! Dude just made a $15,000 pellet cooker hahahaha

For $15000 I could have taken welding classes, bought the materials, built a smoker, cooked for 300 people and still had money left over to buy a Stumps smoker that he basically built.

For the $15K he could have got a gas fired 'ole hickory' or 'southern pride' a pellet fired 'fec750' or a fleet of Stump's Elite 6 smokers.

Even at the adjusted price of $4k there are several options for "set it and forget it" smoking. At least with the Stumps gravity feed models you don't need electricity for the charcoal feed. The new Stump's Elite smokers only require power for the Guru controlers/fan, a 12V battery will do the trick for a long cook if no 120 vac is available.

Some folks have more time and money than sense!
