• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Hi all has anyone out there tried a pizza stone or used fire bricks in a weber 22.5 ? I might have to look in to that, or is this idea all wet ?
thanks

I've tried it. I used lump to get it good and hot, and rolled the dough out nice and thin. Worked pretty well.

Jorge did you have to heat it up and shut down the bottom vent or did ya just let her rip ?

I just let it go. I stuck a probe in through the top vent to get the temp. I kept both wide open for the time it took to cook two pies, and it wasn't long with the thin crust.

Next time I'll probably preheat the stone in the oven and then add it to the kettle as it reaches the target temp. It'll save me some time and work.

Did the pizza stone turn black from cooking with charcoal? We have a really nice one, and I have been afraid to use it on the Weber.

I didn't add the stone until the lump was burning clean. It was discolored a little, but not too much, and not enough for ME to worry about.

Might get a little better result if you add a second stone above the pizza. I'm not sure of the refractory heat in a Weber.

Giggler - wrap the stone in heavy duty foil, or at least between the stone and the grate.

And be careful. I've read on the egg forum about even higher end stones cracking from the heat. I didn't want to chance it, so I bought the BGE stone.

You can use ceramic floor tile too..........right?

wlh3, I did the pizza stone and firebricks in my Weber. I set a Pampered Chef medium stone on 2 firebricks on edge. Worked well.

I guess I got lucky and didnt break the stone. My wife wouldve been pissed. I havent done it since.

Brauma I purchased 5 fire bricks this weekend 1 1/4" X9" X4 1/2". cost $5.00 pizza stones $40.00 to $50.00. since some guys said they broke there stones I would try the fire bricks first. when these guys make the backyard ovens the fire brick is the base. I am going to place the pizza directly on the bricks . I will be gone the next two weekends so will not get to try it till after that. Will keep ya posted

Frozen pizza + cold stone + hot grill = broke stone.
After reading this thread I may try again.

Makes sense. I guess I got lucky but I didnt use frozen pie. I made my own dough so it was room temp.
