• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I'm in the market for a new 24x48 pit. I would love a Gator but the 8 month lead time makes it very hard. I've talked to both Klose and JJ and they both are very helpful and nice folks. The JJ seems to be very similar to the Klose. What are your thoughts? Anyone cooked on or own a JJ pit? Thanks for the help.

I have been in the same boat. Want a Gator, don't want to wait 8 months. My understand is JJ used to work for Klose, that's why his pits look like Klose.

I think the JJ are probably a great bang for the buck. I have been wanting to go have a look in person. JJ is about 30 minutes from me.

Never heard anything bad about jj and his cookers look really nice. I wouldn't be ashamed to own one.

Of course, I have to throw in LSG right up the interstate on I45. All of the cookers mentioned are super, however.

Just take a look. You will like what you see. They compare very favorably.

LSG is nice, but has a pretty big wait too. Back in January I think it was 5 months. JJ being under the radar can get something in your hands quicker for those who don't want to wait.

Thanks for the help! I used to live in Houston and took having everything in my backyard for granted. I moved out to west TX and now I rely on the internet for just about EVERYTHING. LOL. I will check out LSG. This will be a one time purchase so I just want to get all y'alls opinion on this. Smittyjonz if I sold it that cheap my wife may send me with the pit looking like a burnt dried out yard bird. Lol

There is some guy out there in the Midland-Odessa area that build pits. I think. Anyone know who?

Just ordered mine yesterday! I ordered the 20x60, with the log lighter, insulated fire box, a Santa Maria grill, probe spots and some additional gauges. It'll be ready mid-July.

I looked at numerous different smokers and spoke with a few different builders. I'm not a pit builder, nor would I claim to know which pit is better than any other. But, JJ's had great customer service and the price was within my budget.

I have an offset smoker from Pitts by JJ. The build quality is top notch. You won't regret going with them. It is built like a tank and performs like a champ. I have nothing but positive things to say about both the Pitt or the service.

Pits by jj

I just did all the research for a new smoker and i ordered one with pits by jj
best price and time to build
very nice people as well

Big Hat always has smokers ready to go. Drive to Ft. Worth and we'll load it for you. Slide out ash pans standard in both the firebox and the main cooking chamber, gas assist starter standard, custom TelTru thermometers standard, laser cut custom grates not expanded metal standard, oversized casters standard, we don't offer any options because they all come standard on every pit.

JJ definitely has great customer service! I've had several dealings with them and their customer service is top notch! If not for settling with an SF, I was heavily contemplating getting my offset from JJ (would have been my 2nd choice).

I'm with Paul on this, never heard one bad thing about them!
